  • For this course we suggest one of the following two setups: everything within a VirtualBox machine running Kali Linux working on your own machine using the Burp Suite Community Edition and Firefox as well as a Docker container running the Damn Vulnerable Web Application For both setups we have a few notes here that might help you get started, including some tips to test whether everything works as expected. The first option might be the one for you if you want everything ready in a box (and don't care about several GB of download), and when you are fine with working outside your native desktop environment on a Kali Linux desktop. The second option might be the one for you if you rather want to have everything on your own machine, so you can work in your native environment. Also if your machine is not that fast (less then 4 CPU cores or 4 GB RAM), you might want to choose the Docker container version.

  • Tooling Browser tools Developer tools:Inspect source code Javascript console Network logger Storage inspector In most browsers the keys Ctrl+Shift+I will open the developer tools. The developer tools are great to take a look at the requests and responses that the browser sends and recieves, inspect cookies and look at the source code (only the client side source code. You can not see server side code like PHP). But you can also manipulate the code. You can change the HTML as well as the Javascript code of a website (of course only in your own browser!). You can also change parameters of requests, also payload of POST requests and resend request,...

  • Our second game prototype session, in which Jackie will walk through a prototype for a memory game, with an open workshop part afterwards, for students to reimplement it. Additionally, in the beginning we talk about a subjective mid-term evaluation of the course and a new grading breakdown, which skips exercise 6 in favor of getting more points for all other exercises. The new grading breakdown is updated accordingly in the grading section of the session plan of session 1.

  • In this session we will extend on the memory game prototype version 1 from last session to come up with a more feature rich prototype v2. We start the session with out usual arrival phase and question that are still open from last time. The we have two input blocks of roughly 45min, after each of which we take a break for around 10 minutes. The final hour then is the open workshop hour, where students can work on the exercise, and the lecturer is there for questions and support. Exercise

If you already did one of the Web Design courses, you might still want to take a quick look and skim through as a refresher.
