# Session V - 15. Dec. 2021, 14:00-17:00
Our second game prototype session, in which Jackie will walk through a prototype
for a memory game, with an open workshop part afterwards, for students to
reimplement it.
Additionally, in the beginning we talk about a subjective mid-term evaluation of
the course and a new grading breakdown, which skips exercise 6 in favor of
getting more points for all other exercises. The new grading breakdown is
updated accordingly in the grading section of the
[session plan of session 1](https://hackmd.io/@jackie/Sk4KcCWBK).
As the jumping block game - initially planned for session 6 - is moved to the
follow-up course next semester, now session 5 and 6 will both focus on the
memory game. In this session we will create a first functioning prototype to play
a simple memory game. In session 6 we will then improve on this prototype and
use state and local storage to add features and make the game more configurable.
## Exercise
Similar to session 6, the exercise for this session is mainly to recreate the
memory game on your own, and make some smaller improvements in terms of styling.
This is the acceptable low-effort variant. Everything counts, if it is not an
exact 1:1 copy of the thing presented in the lecture part. Feel free to reuse
the code, but the final result should at least look a little bit different in
terms of styling.
Additionally you could also:
* Improve the styling, to make the game visually appealing
* Use images or other items for the memory cards
* Use effects / animations / sounds on success or errors
* Implement some of the missing functionality
If you have fun with this exercise and get into a flow, that allows you to do
some of those bigger changes, this can also count towards your final project.
In that case feel free to submit everything now for the exercise and use the
same code base for the final project, then maybe only with a very few smaller
changes.
As we will extend the memory game in session 6, the deadline for this exercise
is our final session in the course on Jan. 26. My suggestion therefore is to
focus on all other unfinished exercises and only get the minimal prototype for
the memory game running until session 6. Of course, if you already have all
other exercises submitted and/or feel like this one can get you into a coding
flow, feel free to submit early.
To submit your exercise, go to our shared base cloud folder into the "Session 5
and 6 - Memory Game" folder. Inside of it create a folder with your student ID
and name, where you can put your solution (there is a placeholder folder there
as an example reference). Put your solution there until 26. Jan. 2022, 14:00, to
get the full points.
## Review
Due to the shifting in grading and still incoming exercise solutions, the peer
review process is a bit behind. A reminder and new review assignments will be
sent out within the next week.
## Virtual office hours
For all remaining Wednesdays where no regular session is scheduled (except for
Dec 29), Jackie will hold virtual office hours from 14:00 - 16:00 in our Artful
Coding Zoom Room.
