This project is also suitable for beginners. Some German skills are beneficial to understand the data. Projektzeitraum: March to approximately June 2020 Application deadline: March 2nd, 2020 We're looking forward to your applications! Best, Sylvi & Frie ## Our partner denk-mal-kultur e.V. is located in Brandenburg and takes care of the former Herrenhaus Heinersdorf (https://www.schloss-heinersdorf.info/). Their vision is to renovate and transform the Herrenhaus into a space for elderly people to live, learn and connect together with fellow citizens. Among other things, the Herrenhaus will offer: - fully-accessible living - an academy to empower elderly people and give them the space to be creative / acquire new skills - dorfgemeinschaftsräume für meetings und veranstaltungen - a library for the whole village - a café that acts as tourism information point and where regional products can be sold - a doctor's office With this project, denk-mal-kultur e.V. wants to find out which services are critical to elderly people in rural areas and how to foster cultural and social participation of the elderly. In addition, they are considering a "Praxisforschungsstelle" (field research position) at the Herrenhaus to scientifically monitor its services in the future. ## Project goal and content The goal of the project consists in helping denk-mal-kultur e.V. to 1) identify potential services to the target group 2) evaluate whether the general population and relevant representatives of the local administration are interested in the establishment of a field research position in the context of the Herrenhaus project. The denk-mal-kultur e.V. team has already drafted a short questionnaire (~10 questions / 2.5 word pages) that they plan to distribute amongst the population. In order to support denk-mal-kultur e.V., the CorrelAid project team will: - design a decent-looking version of the questionnaire to be made available as a download on denk-mal-kultur's website. - implement the questionnaire as an online survey so that administration representatives can participate remotely. - analyse and visualize the collected data and provide a report to denk-mal-kultur e.V. on the findings. Note: in-person data collection amongst the village population will be done by denk-mal-kultur e.V. and they will provide the project team with the digitalized data. The CorrelAid team **does not** have to do data collection in Brandenburg. - analyse and visualize additional public administrative data on demographics of the administrative regions ("Landkreis") Oder-Spree and Märkisch-OderLand. ## Project timeline - Week of March 2nd: selection of team - Week starting March 9th: onboarding of team, first call of the team - Week starting March 16th until start of April / mid April: The first phase of the project consists in implementing the existing questionnaire draft as an online survey and designing a version for paper-and-pen data collection for denk-mal-kultur. - mid April - early June: data collection (online + face-to-face by denk-mal-kultur), meanwhile analysis of public administration data by CorrelAid team - month of June: analysis and visualization of collected survey data by the CorrelAid team. Creation of final report. The project team is encouraged to take a trip to visit the project partner in Heinersdorf (https://goo.gl/maps/mRmNUmMgMDvcE3xL7). :slightly_smiling_face: ## Your profile For this project, we are looking for two skill sets: - survey design and implementation: you know how to implement an online survey and are comfortable administering an online survey tool of your choice. Good German skills are required here because the questionnaire is in German. - data analysis and visualization: you have (at least basic) skills in R and/or Python. Ideally, you have used one visualization library before (e.g. ggplot, seaborn, matplotlib) and are excited to analyse the data and make the results easy to understand for a non-data-science audience. Some basic German skills are required to analyze the data in a meaningful way. - You can commit to volunteering about 5 hours/ week for this project (March - July 2020), the timing of the workload may depend on your role. If you fit both skill sets, even better! If you just want to implement the online survey or just want to analyse data, please mention this when applying! Finally, you should be excited about helping denk-mal-kultur e.V. face the challenges of demographic change in rural areas.
