- Clarity on what are the Opportunities, Challenges, Limiters and Strong Points currently regarding Token Engineering as a field from diverse perspectives.
- Providing a use case for the TE Community for a Stakeholder Analysis Report product.
- **A methodological report on how the synthesis was generated**
- Properties:
- Should describe how sampling, decisions, data collection and data synthesis were performed, and what were the judgement calls / limitations behind them.
- Value Being Created:
- Providing a ready recipe for future Stakeholder Studies that can be performed by TE groups.
- Increasing the confidence and legitimacy of the Synthesis conclusions.
- **The entire unstructured and structured data generated by this research stored on a persistent storage**

- Includes the processed transcript of the Interviews
- Includes the Survey Results
- Value Being Created:
- Public TE Data Sources that could be readily used for the community at large for independent research & analysis
- Possibility of engaging the TE community through Open Research Projects
- Increasing the confidence and legitimacy of the Synthesis conclusions.
- Increasing Awareness for How to Achieve Reproducible and Persistent Science
## Project Timeline & Resourcing
### Resourcing
- Required Resources: 72k DAI over 3 months (24k per month)
- Roles on this Project:
- Science SME (1 position)
- Job Description: The Science SME should be an expert on qualitative and quantitative research on social sciences that will own the Methodology of this project. It is expected they will ensure the results have good quality standards in terms of relevance, inclusiviness and reproducibility.
- Time Estimate for this project: 55 hours
- Infra SME (1 position)
- Job Description: The Infra SME is an expert on the tooling required for doing reproducible science. Knowledge on persistent data storage as well as tools for communicating transient data are required.
- Time Estimate for this project: 19 hours
- Token Engineering SME (1 position)
- Job Description: The TE SME will be the de-facto owner of the Synthesis narrative and will be the main point of contact for this Project. Active participation on all steps of this project is to be expected, and required skills include a good understanding of the TE technical fields, projects and groups. Communication and writing skills, as well as synthesis skills are required.
- Time Estimate: 109 hours
- Communications (1 position)
- Job Description: The Comms Person will be responsible for the content distribution and writing support on the synthesis / summaries. Some help can be required during the interviews set-up.
- Time Estimate: 29 hours
- Interviewers (3 positions)
- Job Description: The interviewers will be responsible for interviewing people with heterogenous backgrounds on the TE field and to produce summaries on it. They will be supported by the Token Engineering SME for streamlining their working, and it is expected that they will provide regular feedback on the project methodology and artifacts being produced. Interviewers should be able to understand their subjects language, so having a TE-related background is desirable.
- Time Estimate for this project: 99 hours
- Transcriber (1 position)
- Job Description:
- Time Estimate for this project: 51 hours
### Timeline
- Week 1: Initial set-up
- Week 2: Data Keeping & Provenance is defined
- Week 3: Groups to be interviewed are defined
- Week 4: Sampling Strategy and Interview Questions are defined
- Week 5: Interviews are ready to be started!
- Weeks 6 to 8: Interviews
- Week 9: Interviews are Synthetized and Summarized
- Week 10: Follow-up Survey is defined and distributed
- Week 11: Follow-up Survey analysis is done
- Week 12: Final Report is written and distributed along with the research data
## Meta-Methodology
This is a description of the key decisions / outcomes that should be achieved in order to make the Artifacts being Delivered.
___
0. Define Data Keeping & Provenance
- Describe what data is going to be generated during this research
- Define how the data being generated will be stored and shared for both transient and permanent purposes
- The definition of data includes both unstructured and structured forms. Both results and intermediate data should be stored.
- Transient Storage: Notion, Google Workspace, HackMD, etc.
- Define how the data is going to be processed for publishing purposes. Eg. how privacy should be addressed.
2. Define Groups of Interest
- Initially set-up by brainstorming internally
- Additional groups can be collected by reaching out externally
- through a single person from each brainstormed group
- through surveys
- May require a synthesis part on which groups are pruned to a given number
- The exact procedure should be documented
3. Define Interview Sampling
- Each group should have a minimum sample size
- Sampling can also require a sequencial strategy, on which the set of interviewees for each round will be selected through a diversity criteria and the justification should be documented.
4. Define Questions
- Define the specific questions for each group
- Define the general questions for all groups
- Sampling questions may be included, on which for each interview round, suggestions should be collected from the interviewees as for who should be interviewed next and why. Each interviewee should provide multiple suggestions: one per group
6. Interviews
- Interviews will have a semi-structured format and will take place according to the prior defined Sampling Strategy and the Questions.
- The content of them will be recorded and transcribed.
- Each interviewer should summarize their take-aways for the interview immediatly after the fact. The summary should contain:
- A 5-15 lines description of the interview
- A 2-5 lines opinion of the interview
- A title for the interview
7. Interview Synthesis
- Per-Group Synthesis
1. Curate together all the interviewers summaries into an cohesive document
- If there are contradictory facts / perceptions, perform an analysis on the interviews associated with the contradiction and write commentary on it on a separate section.
- Same thing above, but for convergent facts / perceptions.
2. Summarize the Curation and the Contradiction Analysis into a 10-20 line summary.
- Whole Synthesis
1. Curate each Per-Group summary into a cohesive document.
2. Perform an analysis on any identified potential conflict of interest regarding different stakeholders, or any contradictory perception among groups. Make it a separate section.
3. Perform an analysis on any identified convergence of interest and perception among groups. Make it a separate section.
4. Summarize the cohesive document into a 10-20 line summary.
9. Define Follow-Up Survey
- Based on the Identified Groups, Convergent Perceptions and Divergent perceptions, create a set of structured questions for evaluating how prevalent those are.
- The Survey should not take more than 2 minutes to complete.
12. Follow-up Survey
- Distribute the Survey Widely.
14. Final Report
- Should contain the following sections:
- A write up consisting of the Whole Synthesis together with a Report on the Adopted Methodology.
- The Follow-Up Survey Proposal as well as a Call to Action for criticizing the Follow-Up Survey Questions.
