# From Ideas to Action - The W4P Project Our thoughts about 'Literacy' and 'Skill Training' [toc] ## The Bell Curve of 'Training and literacy' ![](https://i.imgur.com/wfxHUgJ.png) >y-axis is comfortable/capacity and x-axis would be number of people. >the yellow would be the new-normal of people/girls who would be media comfortable - self expression, community expressions and navigating the interconnections (*civic readiness*). the red ones represent narrow skill training programs and most school curriculum programs. * traditional ways of learning are restricted to reading and text * very few people's learning styles are included * teaching like broadcasting * alternative is social and networked learning from peers * self-intiated, experimental and creative ## Learning about new opportunities * there are different opportunities in a rural setting versus a urban setting * the girls are the experts of their surroundings * traditional training takes away entrepreneurial agency * we are learning from them and working to support them * through co-learning and creative making, we can witness emergent experimentation instead of a prescriptive 'skill training' When we planned the way that the program would be structured, we kept in mind these ideas. ## Apps The reasoning between choosing and building apps was a simple. The guiding light simply was that the technosystem would be safe, generative and comfortable. ### ASPI We have spoken about why we need an ASPi here. However, for someone to make one of their own they could use the HW guide here. Putting the software guide is at this link. ### Papad Papad is the latest in our experiments with annotation and renarration. We beleive that Internet is made to be used by only a few. To open it up for different cultures and contexts, web objects should be renarrated. Papad allows for audio files to be tagged and fragments of interest to be marked. It also allows for different modes of networking, an adhoc network locally and internet-based syncing for longer distances. These are a bunch of illustrations about the implementation and use cases of PAPAD - https://photos.app.goo.gl/3e6d8u8E5nKkj1Ja7. ### Kolibri Kolibri is one of the open-sourced education platforms. Because of the way that it can be used to push content within a local ecosystem, it became an interesting experiment. The reason we started to think about Kolibri more seriously was because of peer-learning. Imagining a group of learners pushing multimedia educational packages to each other. It would work in sync with the other devices and technologies that we are developing with the girls as part of a larger technosystem. ### Canva and Inshot If ASPi was a home for learning platforms, Papad would be a way to summarize media, Kolibri would be the platform to push content among peers, while Canva and Inshot are where the primary content could be generated. All part of a caring technosystem configured for co-learning and experimentation. ## Activites The activities were also geared to work together and work with the technosystem in this fashion. ### Daily activities Daily activities would be where our team engaged with the girls, getting to know them and their dreams better. These sessions involved having creative prompts like 'What do we need in order to achieve our goals for our village?'. The group then thinks these things through with each other. ### Workshops These were more short-term classes organized around a specific skill or theme. One example was the product photography workshop that was taken. ### Exposure Sessions Exposure sessions were designed to be touch-and-go sessions where complex topics would be lightly discussed to gauge interest and build new types of imaginations. One such session was a 3 hour session about making and hosting websites really works. --- ## ref images - do not edit - we may loose the imgur reference. copy paste into the text. micah's art contributions ![](https://i.imgur.com/8rR4sTv.jpg) ![](https://i.imgur.com/tRah6Jb.jpg) ![](https://i.imgur.com/6qtvjVZ.jpg) ![](https://i.imgur.com/R8sssmV.jpg) ![](https://i.imgur.com/pgWO3eW.jpg) ![](https://i.imgur.com/M3KJPjV.jpg) new-normal (dinesh) ![](https://i.imgur.com/wfxHUgJ.png) shefoo: meripehchan drive folder https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1BEaaE5rfIWPac9bQEGKnSXLBnc2xOBSH Hamaari Pehechan document https://docs.google.com/document/d/1K1HBTag8QP7Gc8cGeGdw5_1OG0ltWqOSUxCRLAbiXlk/edit?usp=sharing poem and more https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Cu4DgwFuTF-vojMZN3KOLJ2UiaJkEECFasf4PnlZPjA/edit sanketh: https://hackmd.io/y0lQzJS3QpCfOfVGfRao9g?view When Girls started with teaching children from their neighbourhood, they first thought they'll have to convince nearby kids to come and join the but looking at one most enthusiasitically came and joined. The girls realised how most children have problem with very basic maths, reading and words. They also realised but how fast the children were grasping from electronic devices. They enjoyed using phones, laptops and aspi whatever was at their disposal. They realised the kids learn fast when they sing along songs with videos and ASPI played a supporting role with its beautiful loud speakers. They think to use aspi for playing movies and videos (entertainment now). Also they can now call and see what other kids are doing near the other pi, establishing networks. from w4p WA group.. ![](https://i.imgur.com/ET7yULZ.jpg) ![](https://i.imgur.com/19K5nhJ.jpg) Aaj bacchon ko pi se bhi introduce Kiya ![](https://i.imgur.com/K8tQZyi.jpg)
