# Anata VRMs Proposal Notes

## Background

Anata has long expressed interest in adding support for VRM, the premiere interoperable standard for virtual avatars and vtubing software. The Webaverse and M3 crew have some of the most extensive experience in working with this format and would be ideal partners to make a 1:1 3D avatar for the entire collection.

## Motivation

Anata working closely with M3 and Webaverse on this sounds really exciting and there are tons of opportunity for producing fun content along the way! We can bring to life many of items like weapons to be usable wearables and Anatas themselves as AI powered virtual beings that live in the metaverse.

Webaverse and M3 have been collaborating on avatar builder programs that also align with this project. Need a whitelabeled web app to customize your Anatas? We can do it.

## Benefits

In the past year startups like [Alethea AI](https://decrypt.co/79283/ai-firm-raises-16-million-to-create-nft-metaverse) have raised $16M and Altered State Machine with $11M to work on AI + NFTs. Webaverse has been on the bleeding edge of AI + metaverse for years and makes it easy for any VRM avatar to become an AI NPC with the freedom of choice on what backend service to use.

What about different levels of detail like a high poly version and a low poly one? No problem. Animated sprite sheets? Yep. On-chain text 'Loot styles' of Anata? hell yeah

Popular [avatar builder programs](https://hackmd.io/@XR/avatarbuilders) like Ready Player Me just raised 56M in a round lead by a16z to work on similar tasks we've done. I hope that we find more opportunities for collaboration rather than competition, such is the spirit of building open source projects and by extension the open metaverse.

## Process

IMO the best way to work on this project would be to model and texture as many reusable traits as we can going from most common to unique. Then we reconstruct the Anatas based on the metadata best we can to speed up the artist workflow. We have built some custom tooling around this already.

- Metadata can be in the VRM file itself

- 3D animated preview similar to 2D NFT art, all traits visible

### Questions

> Can the release of VRM 1.0 affect production plans?

Webaverse already supports VRM 1.0 and our tools support the updated plugin to import/export such as well. It's also possible to update 0.x spec to 1.0 version VRMs by modifying gltf-transform to batch process.

> What if we need to go back and update something?

We'll have the means to make changes across the whole collection for any of the assets whenever we want. Designing things in a way that can be future proof is important to us.
