    # Creative Freedom Summit 2023 - Post Event Survey Analysis 43 responses. Would like to have seen more, probably would have gotten more if it was ready during event. Probably could have doubled if had it available duringe vent. Does element have a poll widget? ## Questions ### About You 1. Where did you hear about the Creative Freedom Summit? Select all that apply. (mandatory, multiple choice) - Fedora IRC/Matrix/Telegram Channel (7 / 16%) - Fedora mailing list/email (2 / 4.65%) - Fedora Community Blog (4 / 9.3%) - Facebook (0) - Instagram (0) - LinkedIn (0) - Mastodon (21 / 49%) + 1 open field - Twitter (9 / 21% - was during Twitter Muskpocalypse) +1 open field - Other(open field) (6 / 14%) #### Notes on Q1: - Overwhelming mastodon, twitter - Focus more effort mastodon/twitter - Would be cool to know which IRC channel people found it through - Could add a request to know what channel/mailing list it was found - Might add fedora discussion as an option - Maybe consider TikTok next time? 2. Are you primarily a… (mandatory, single choice) - Student (4 / 9.3%) - Hobbyist (6 / 14%) + 1 write-in - Freelancer (5 / 12%) - Graphic Designer (2 / 5%) - UI/UX Designer (1 / 2.33%) + 1 write-in - Animator (0) - Software Developer (8 / 18.6%) + sysadmin write-in + SRE write-in - Marketing Professional (2 / 5%) - Other (open field) (8 / 18.6%) #### Notes on Q2: - Seems like a sort of even spread - Add System Administrator to "Software developer option" - Definitely a value in promoting it outside of design spaces - Could be worth talking to software devs who showed up and learning more - Would be nice to see more students (present / filling out survey) 3. What region of the world are you located in? (non-mandatory, single choice) - North America 8 / 18.6% - South and Latin Americas, and the Caribbean 3 / 7% - Europe & Central Asia 15 / 35% - East Asia and the Pacific 2 / 5% - Eastern and Southern Africa 1 / 2% - Middle East and North Africa 1 / 2% - South Asia 4 / 9.3% - West and Central Africa 0 #### Notes on Q3: - Europe & central Asia biggest audience - Makes sense? The average European is more in touch with open source than the average American - Timing worked well for European late afternoon/evening - We should look to speak to designers in underrepresented regions - Reach out to Marie's African connections through SustainOSS - Inviting past Outreachy interns from underrepresented areas - Make efforts to reach out to OS communities in underrepresented areas of the world - Revisit this during CfP, invitations, and promotions 4. What is your relation to the Fedora Project? (mandatory, single choice) - No relation yet/just learning about Fedora 11 / 25% - User 14 / 33% - Occasional contributor 6 / 14% - Frequent contributor 5 / 12% #### Notes on Q4: - Break "no relation yet/just learning about Fedora" into two options - Ties well to "new contributor" strategy - We had only 48 badges claimed. 250ppl in the channel. Seemed like more non-Fedora people than Fedora people around. ### Platform 5. How did you attend the Creative Freedom Summit? Select all that apply. (mandatory, multiple choice) - Live in the Element Chat Desktop App 14 / 33% + 3 Element mobile - Live in Element Chat Web App 13 / 30% + 1 fill-in - Watching live stream on PeerTube 21 / 49% - Watching live stream on Mastodon 2 / 5% - Watching replays on PeerTube 14 / 33% - Other (open field) 5 / 12% #### Notes on Q5: - Need more guidance on how to join using the preferred platforms - Mo is looking into embedding the stream/chat stream onto our website - Put some info onto Peertube about joining the Element channel - PeerTube has lowest friction for users - Optimization: starting/stopping stream for each session. - Creating guides on how to join element could make it less intimidating for users. - Element Desktop client was best experience, but not accessible for everyone (eg office networks where it's blocked, mobile client confusing) - Should we add a "Element mobile" option? should add how to view widgets in mobile to any guides that we make 6. If you used Element, how was your experience? 1 being a poor experience, 5 being a seamless experience. Please provide details about your experience in the open field (operating system, widgets, chat room features, stream quality, etc). (non-mandatory) - 1-5 - Open field #### Notes on Q6: - Decent but not the best was overwhelming (40%+19% for 4 and 5) - Transaction token error - Mo to research with EMS support team - 7. If you used Peertube, how would you rate the PeerTube platform experience? 1 being a poor experience, 5 being a seamless experience. Please provide details about your experience in the open field (operating system, ease of access, stream quality, etc). (non-mandatory) - 1-5 - Open field #### Notes on Q7: - Overwhelmingly seen as great except for 1 person. 4 & 5 across the board - Stream died 3-4 times - Was very helpful to have support of admin team for linuxrocks - Explore NewPipe client - Next year - rename raw recordings with talk names - Echoing issues - make sure we use headsets 8. How many sessions did you attend live? (non-mandatory, single choice) - None - 1-2 - 3-5 <= most popular (17 / 40%) - 6-8 - Most or all of them #### Notes on Q8: - 3-5 is pretty good. Average is lower. - Most or all of them - 5 ppl / 12% - We probably did pretty good with schedule / timing. 9. How many sessions did you watch the replay? (non-mandatory, single choice) - None - 1-2 <= 11 / 26% - 3-5 <= 12 / 28% - 6-8 - Most or all of them #### Notes on Q9: - Pretty good. ### Content 10. What did you find most valuable at the Creative Freedom Summit 2023? (non-mandatory, single choice) - Sessions <= 19 / 44% - Chat Room 6 / 14% - Socials - Other (with open field) #### Notes on Q10: - Sessions definitely the winner - Fill-in response - liked having live chat / AMA-like sessions - this was great esp in David and Jason's - Idea - try to get more popular speakers into the social sessions 11. Do you have a better understanding open source creative tools and their possibilities as a result of joining the Summit? (non-mandatory, single choice) - Yes <= 25 / 58% - No <= 0 !!! :) - About the same 8 / 19% #### Notes on Q11: - Great response - Wondering how maps to the job roles question - Were these folks in the chat or not 12. Did you make any connections with other creatives at the event, and if so, how did you do so? (non-mandatory, single choice) - Yes, in the chat room <= 15 / 35% - Yes, during the socials 5 / 12% - No, I didn't connect to the chat or socials 3 / 7% - No, I was in the chat, but chose not to participate 9 / 21% - About the same 5 / 12% #### Notes on Q12: - Would like to map to where they were in the world - Did they have probs with the chat room? - What type of role did they self-describe as? 13. How satisfied are you with the quality of the networking opportunities? 1 being not satisfied at all, and 5 being extremely satisfied. Please provide feedback on how we could improve networking in the open field. (non-mandatory) - 1-5 - Open field #### Notes on Q13: - 4/5, pretty good - Lots of free-form - Complaints about focus in Jitsi on live video vs avatar - Pictionary in English is US-centric - Some Fedorans put together a Fedora themed pictionary - Suggestion for an organized introduction session - Some people had registered on sched.org - allows people to add it to their calendar. 14. Which topics, session formats, or activities would you like to see at future Creative Freedom Summit events? Is there anything you would add, remove or change to improve the experience in the future? Choose all that apply and please provide feedback in the open field. (non-mandatory, multiple choice) - More sessions 13 / 30% - Panel sessions - Workshops <= 20 / 47% - Different kinds of socials - More socials - Structured networking opportunities / 13 / 30% - Sessions in other languages (please add what language(s) to open field) - More variety of software (please add what software(s) to open field) - Different ways to access the event - Other (open field) #### Notes on Q14: - For more sessions, would need to extend schedule or have concurrent tracks - Write-in for animation software / glaxnimate or opentoonz - Write-in on VirtualCoffee.io and devRant.com communities - To expand: maybe break it up, 2 weeks, 2 days per week or smtg like that - Structured networking... for folks for whom unstructured chat isn't enough and social games not enough. - Maybe have slots people could sign up for like a BOF, speed dating slots, do a quick intro to introduce - WorkAdventure? Eg Fedora museum. They have pre-set available maps, we could make a speed networking session map, and there would be a path set up. - Trading cards? Pre-submit a LinkedIn profile or something, turn into a session where you make a trading card for yourself. Have pre-built assests to do. Essentially a virtual business card. - Use some kind of open source alt to miro board to let people submit their tradiing cards to be matched up (Whiteboard?) - Have a separate channel for networking in Matrix? - Scribus session request ### Overall Event Quality 15. How satisfied were you with the event overall? 1 being not satifisied, 5 being extremely satisfied (mandatory) - 1-5 #### Notes on Q15: - Super exciting :) 4.55 mean! - no 1s or 2s, one person 3. The rest are 4-5 - Would like to look at metadata on 3 response to see what might have influenced that answer 16. Do you plan to attend the Creative Freedom Summit in the future? (non-mandatory, single choice) - Yes <= 27 (63%) - Maybe 4 / 9.3% - No 0 - Other (Open field) #### Notes on Q16: - A great result. - Would like to cross reference w technical difficulties and geo and role 17. Are you interested in learning more about the Fedora Project and contributing? (non-mandatory, single choice) - Yes - (If yes, give them question 19) 9 people - No #### Notes on Q17: - We have 7 email addresses from people wanting to learn more about Fedora, we should email - Links to: Join SIG docs, Fedora Project docs, Discussion/Ask, invitation to join the Design Team Channel - What other info are they looking for?
