Project Ideas

Parameters

Projects need to either

  • have a path to become self funding, in the long run
  • give Tezos more clout

For projects that require cooperation from people or companies in a specific industry, show how we'd get a foothold in that industry (for example: people who would be open to collaborate, personal experience, etc.)

Ideas

Decentralized social media

with built in bi-directional linking and ownership via blockchain.

This is a system which social platforms like Facebook could be granted permission to access, acting just as a UI layer, rather than a data-store. Individuals would own their own posts, pictures, music files, video; this could be stored by a service or self-hosted depending on their preference.

The blockchain aspect would track ownership and linked data. For example, the fact that someone linked to, altered and reposted, that multiple people are involved (tags in a photo, co-written article, etc.)

Tokenomic Designer

Create a website which allows people to play with the variables involved in the programmed monetary policy of a token (aka tokenomics). This could begin as educational, but the goal would be to allow people to design and then create the newly designed token on the Tezos blockchain, without having to program it themselves.

The design work would lie in isolating many variables and the technical challenge would be to automatically convert that into a token. I'm not certain how generic it's possible to make this, but it could also be used with other blockchains if it panned out.

Guarantee payments for artists, architects, other creatives from countries where normally they can't be hired due to lack of a trustworthy system (international banking limitations).

Two main points:

  • hire people without worry that payment is possible or that they can trust you to make the payment.
  • guarantee payment and credit to people who otherwise would be vulnerable to being taken advantage of (for example: artists who work for a famous artist who takes the credit for their work. This would apply in many other fields, and the ability to trace someone's work could make a big difference in their ability to move forward in their career and produce the things they truly want to create [what else might it enable?] )

The system (at root) would be a service for transferring money, which could then be used for various applications including this one. The specific implementation in this field, however, would require collaboration with people willing to implement it. (Who?)

Virtual Licencing

of virtual therapists. There's a world of informal/alternative care and many types are moving online. Even for conventional therapy, regulatory bodies have not adapted to care that can be done in 3D virtual spaces.

For insurance and legal purposes + being able to tell credible care practitioners from those that are not, there is a need for a new type of virtual certification that’s specific to care done online and with different requirements than conventional licenses.

This would be a collaborative project with Bianca's virtual therapy mental health care commons. She needs a way based on (experience + any real-life licences + ratings/reputation points in-game) to provide some verification of the care providers in a gaming environment.

Identification

for homeless people, for people who don't have countries, and others who fall into the cracks between governments and systems.

What if we didn't have to trust government servers and physical papers for essential records? What if they were part of a decentralied self-soverign ID system, independant of country? Birth certificates, identity numbersif you start with those who don't have these things, and solve it well, later it might scale to passports, visas, citizenship records for anyone

Messy brainstorming

  • Accreditation. What if you could prove certification, degrees, transcriptsjobs held even? via blockchain? Right now it's difficult to get schools to issue paperwork to prove you have xyz degree or credits, so you're allowed to take their degree. Using blockchain would make people intependent of the whims of the place the graduated fromdecades agofor what they can do now.
This is not a system I like; evaluating people based on education/tests is not ideal. Could a blockchain record allow for greater flexibility in what people can use to prove themselves? Likeverified 'reccommendation letters' or equivalent, for stuff they actually did
  • Real-estate fractional ownership. Small fractions could be tracked and financal agreements (both earnings and expences) handled through smart contracts.
  • > Decentralized social media with built in bi-directional linking and ownership via blockchain such that things like Facebook could exist just as a UI layer, rather than a data-store
  • NFT stuff seems really popular right now, not sure I love the concept but will look into it because that's a use case that really is critically blockchain
  • Logistics tracking software: provable temperture tracking for food safety, proving origin / supply chain. Could verify things like: origin (to a very high resolution) what each person along the way got paid, [GA objects that this one has too much competition, lots of people are trying it.]
  • Verified news: put a hash of original material on the blockchainthus it can only be falsified if it's done really early. Same could go for online journal entries, to prove that they were written when claimed (there are a lot of points of failure here but same with any evidence; this just takes away one dimension of fraud) [GA: how could this make money?]
  • Couchsurfing replacement: store reviews / reputation on-chain, self-moderate and even allow for a kind of reputation+hospitality exchange based on how much hosting or other facilitation you've done. [GA: check if there's demand?]
  • What about small countries as clients?
  • Is there a simple enough use case to propose use of blockchain (Tezos specifically) as a complementary currency that is, with limited things you can use it for in order to solve particular incentive issues like
    • implementing stuff like Fureai Kippu
    • OR a project that enables configuring and creating new complementary currencies, which could then collect metrics on what configs and uses have what effects, leading to a better grasp of how to make

also, what about a standardized way of describing the variables involved in the 'rules' of a currency? aka the definition of it. Things like interest rates, demurrage, what allows more of it to exist, what it can be exchanged for (when this is fixed by the party who can provide the thing),
