Creative Freedom Summit Tech 101 / Cheatsheet
Overview
Hosts + Speakers who will be live on camera / with audio will join Jitsi:
https://meet.jit.si/CreativeFreedomSummit
Speakers will be placed into a lobby and you can let them in when it's their time. There is a password as well.
For socials we will have a different, non-passworded Jitsi room here:
https://meet.jit.si/CreativeFreedomSocial
The Jitsi meetings will be live streamed to PeerTube at:
https://peertube.linuxrocks.online/c/creativefreedom/videos
Máiriń Duffy, Marie Nordin, and Madeline Peck have the login to the PeerTube channel:
username: fedora.design
password: (three people above have it)
The PeerTube Video will be embedded in the Element channel at:
https://matrix.to/#/#creativefreedom:fedora.im
The chat has the following admins and moderators:
Either Mo or Marie can add additional moderators if needed.
Each Morning, Steps to Follow
Step 1: Create Stream Video on PeerTube
1. Log into fedora.design account on https://peertube.linuxrocks.online/c/creativefreedom/videos
2. Click orange "Publish" button in upper right corner:
3. Click on the "Go live" tab (fourth from the left) and make sure the following settings are set:
Click "Go Live" (don't worry, you won't really be going live quite yet, there is more data to fill in.)
4. Basic info (don't click update yet)
First you'll fill out the "Basic Info" tab, then we'll do the "Advanced Settings" tab in the next step:
5. Advanced Settings
This is where we upload the standby image that shows up before the stream goes live while everyone is waiting for things to start.
Download the graphic Madeline created for this below and upload it here by clicking the "Edit" button under "Video Thumbnail."
If you forget this step, we will get a cute squid guy that David Revoy created instead :)
6. Start Live Stream on PeerTube
Now you can hit the update button in the lower right corner. The stream will appear like this - it's in a holding pattern until you start streaming from Jitsi:
7. Copy / Paste Live Stream URL for Jitsi
Final step in Peer tube… once you've got the livestream up, click on the "…" icon under the video and towards the right:
Select "Display live information." You'll get a dialog like this:
You need to copy both the Live RTMP URL as well as the Live stream key. You will combine them into one URL and then copy paste that into Jitsi.
So here's examples from my test run of these two text blocks to copy:
Live RTMP Url:
rtmp://peertube.linuxrocks.online:1935/live
Live stream key:
8b940f96-c46d-46aa-81a0-701de3c43c8f
What I need to paste into Jitsi (in the Step 3. below) is these two text blocks combined with a "/" between them, like so:
rtmp://peertube.linuxrocks.online:1935/live/8b940f96-c46d-46aa-81a0-701de3c43c8f
8. MUTE YOUR PEERTUBE TAB
Very important step. :) Firefox lets you right click to mute tab, I'm assuming chrome has similar.
Step 2. Embed PeerTube Stream in Matrix Chat Room
1. Go to the Creative Freedom Summit Room in Element
https://matrix.to/#/#creativefreedom:fedora.im
2. Click the "Add widgets, bridges, and bots" link in the lower right corner
3. Click "Add integrations" button in lower left corner
4. Scroll down in the list and click on the "Custom Widget" item with the lego icon
5. Copy/Paste the Embed URL of the PeerTube video you created in Step 1.
Do not use the URL with the streaming key that you had to put together. This is the embed URL for the page on the PeerTube channel for the day's video, you will find it under the "Share" button on the video. It should look something like this:
https://peertube.linuxrocks.online/videos/embed/c26cf1e6-d130-434c-b516-69eedceff17b
Make sure it has that /embed/ in the URL.
Then hit Save and exit dialog window to go back to the chatroom.
6. Pin the video to the channel.
In the lower right corner, click the pin icon next to the "Custom" widget listing.
Step 3. Hook up Jitsi to PeerTube
1. Visit https://meet.jit.si/CreativeFreedomSummit
2. Join the meeting and click the "…" icon next to the red hangup button, at the bottom of the screen.
3. Select "Start live stream" from the menu that pops up.
4. Copy/paste the URL/key text block you made in Step 7 under PeerTube.
5. Listen for your Jitsi robot friend
A feminine voice will come on in a few seconds or so to tell you "Live streaming is on." Once she sounds, smile! You're live streaming :)
6. To stop the streamt, under the "…" menu you can select "Stop live stream."
This will stop the PeerTube URL you set up from working. So you'll have to repeat these steps again to start things back up.
