    # DST planning 2022/23 ### - Are we a 'collaborative', 'thinking and talking' or a 'doing' space? - From inception, seems to be more a focus on the collaborative aspect? - Selective aspects of 'doing'/ how to add value? - Larger budget (50 - 100k), review possible sources for the funding - Formalise the 'task-and-finish group' - pay day a month/consultancy/coaching ### Current impact - Grew membership - Solidified governance - Launch of NDS Portal (ministeral quote) - Maintaining and expanding stakeholder relationships - Expanding public presence via comms - AfDSP - Focus session (report format TBD) ### Terms to define - Data skills/mapping our landscape - Membership structure - Executive board and governance structure - Alignment with NDS/AI Council Roadmap/Bridge AI ### Deliverables - 2x state of the nation piece - How is this resourced, managed and developed? - Could we leverage existing uni relationships and provide funding/support/advice? E.g. Edi/Newcastle/Oxford Brookes - Could run an 'open call' for proposals and act in supporting capacity - Legacy assets - Portal - FTE/resource to continue developing and maintaining the portal - Comms - Newsletter - Round-up for E.B. - Improved twitter & linkedin presence - Policy leads - Funding deadline: mid-Sept 22 - Run as open call / issues with recruitment strategy - Less leads with more funding - e.g. 1 instead of 4 with proper budget for work/research/surveys - More energy into collaboration? - How might we measure impact of these collaborations? - Discussion groups? - Mechanism where we review and 'claim' any sub-collaborations that arise from discussion groups - FSSC, Nesta, ONS, UFS, etc - collaborative project on labour market and higher education insights - Direct development - Added unique trainings n the portal/link to legacy assets/develop 'into to' - can be done via open call ### Year with 10k budget - General meetings - Discussion groups - encouraging better engagement through more interactive sessions. - Open public/external sessions limited to free venues/speakers/hosts(NDS) - Further focus sessions with public reports on dynamic GitHub repo/project plan (BN to mock up and publish into binder) - DST focussed DSG or TIN - resource works on policy or portal (10k) ### Year with budget (100k - varying sources) - Workshops and hands-on in-person sessions outside of SE (10k) [public engagement awards] - 1 policy leads to deliver a report/whitepaper (70k) - non traditional paper asset such as Turing Commons/interactive and accessible piece [Skills budget] - 1 0.5 FTE for NDS portal (20k+) [could most likely ask for NDS support] 200k - pilot (3 people) Flexigrant - open online training call Flexibility - write the bid Salary and on-costs per secondee: 0.6 for 6months (band/safe avg) / average salary (32-42k) Additional costs (travel): 10k 32-42k / First week in the Turing ### Roadblocks - Under resourced for desired deliverables - Lack of budget/insecure funding - Lack of clarity on definitions and scope of work - Lack of clarity on strategy/mission alignment ### Possible strategy and KPIs #### Aims: 1. Analysing and setting recommendations on LMI/HE 2. Upskilling/allocating of DS talent for future skills 3. Joining up of SMEs and 'talent' ### [NDS workstreams for collaboration ](https://www.gov.uk/guidance/national-data-strategy-forum#unlock) * **Unlocking the power of data for everyone everywhere:** This workstream focuses on unlocking the power of data, whether that’s improving data quality and standards or increasing access - right across the UK data ecosystem and in all the UK’s regions. This is central to the National Data Strategy Mission 1 Policy Framework, which sets out the Government interventions needed to make private and third sector data more usable, accessible and available across the economy, while protecting people’s data rights and private enterprises’ intellectual property. We want the Forum to share learning and best practice on the steps we can all take and on how we do this in a way that helps all parts of the UK to level up. * **Trust in data**: We want to build public support for trustworthy data use, so that data can be harnessed to unlock societal benefits and improve lives. This workstream brings together an active and collaborative network of Forum participants, who can help us collate the evidence and examples we need to rebalance the conversation about data use and build that support. * **Data reform**: This workstream helps ensure we bring together a diverse range of views to help shape future reforms to create an ambitious, pro-growth and innovation-friendly data protection regime that underpins the trustworthy use of data. * **Measuring the data ecosystem**: This workstream will focus on mapping stakeholder activity across the wider the data ecosystem in the UK. This will help us to understand how it is interacting with and supporting implementation of the National Data Strategy. We want to test the feasibility of creating an openly available resource to show how the work of different organisations fits together in helping us realise the ambitions set out in the National Data Strategy. ## Policy Secondments - 2 days a week for a year, 0.4 FTE PY - onboard one week in the Turing - secondment templates - panel review: 1/2 names per area - map secondments into Turing strategy
