# Interoperability Twitter Spaces 12/17/2021 Matty (@dclblogger) https://twitter.com/DCLBlogger/status/1471017525043290113?s=20 ![](https://i.imgur.com/LBXGj9W.png) ![](https://i.imgur.com/OaTOi3I.png) # Notes https://twitter.com/dclblogger/status/1471017525043290113?s=21 - If you can only use your asset in one place it diminishes the value of ownership. - In Web3 we have slightly more unified backends e.g. Ethereum, GLTF but more could be done. - CryptoVoxels (CV) implementing VRM. Other platforms should support eventually. - Popular things get implemented by others e.g. Fortnite just came up with a sliding mechanic which was followed by others. - CV started how you could display NFTs and Decentraland followed suit. - Avatars most mobile to move across platforms - theme for 2022. - Threat of big tech building better than open metaverse - Open metaverse has network effects on its side because of grassroots building w/ standardized file formats - Metcalfe’s law - when it comes to indie and smaller subverses, we will see assets move across worlds. - Silk Road - goods travelling between different trade routes, also exchange of culture. - What kind of assets from cryptovoxels would decentraland want, etc? - Wearables from one place will eventually be in demand somewhere else - Festivals that go from platform to platform need a frictionless experience - Cultures emerge from local vibes and culture brings unique value - Is needing to be open too much of a challenge? - .gltf and .vrm can already make up all objects and characters on both web and apps - People naturally converge around most interoperable file formats for distributing their goods - What are the incentives for platforms to actually be interoperable? - Jin thinks it will come from the users. interoperable always looks cooler, so when people see it, they will also want to be cool. - If cryptovoxels implement .vrm, decentraland will probably do so shortly after - Interoperability was put second to gainz in crypto, do uyou think the demand is there now? - Artists are spearheading it because they want to reach users - There aren't forks of virtual worlds yet - Once there are, platforms will have to work harder to keep their users because the forks will create cooler features - What do artists have to gain from interoperability - There will be a growing, standardized 3d asset economy powered by demand for building out worlds - If you make your wearables obtainable and usable for people outside of cryptovoxels, artists have more customers - How do you see larger (traditional?) platforms become interoperable as well - Giving creators the tools they're used to in crypto space - Bridges between blockchain ecosystem are a impedement - Fees & time - Web2 platforms' centralized ledgers can bypass all of these - For existing Web2 platforms to integrate they could use Pinata cloud + IPFS so they don’t have to worry about things like bridging assets across blockchains - We need to help shift focus from money & investment to content and quality - Negative perception wrt crypto - Need better representatives on Twitch etc. Crypto has a negative perception because of shillers, PnDers. Boombox has been creating some good content around this. - Social onboarding - To lower the barrier to entry, lower the barrier to understanding - The social element is important in getting people onboard - [Chainsafe SDK](https://chainsafe.github.io/game-docs/) bridges gaming engines like Unity and UnrealEngine with Web 3.0. However this would increase dependency on these engines. - Doing things in plaforms like NEOS where people can see what different experiments are running helps educate people.
