    # Meeting - 24 November 2025 [toc] ## Meeting Info This is the UK Carpentry Community space for the UK Carpentry instructors, helpers and workshop coordinators (or anyone involved in training tech to researchers in general and outside of the UK) to get to know each other better, update the commmunity about developments, discuss issues and ideas, and encourage collaboration. During these meetings, we will be conforming to [The Carpentries Code of Conduct](https://docs.carpentries.org/policies/coc). **Meeting schedule: meetings happen on 4th Monday each month, 16:00-17:00 UK time, BST (UTC+1) or GMT (UTC+0) depending on the time of the year** **Meeting details are shared via [local-uk mailing list](https://carpentries.topicbox.com/groups/local-uk) and [The Carpentries community calendar](https://carpentries.org/community/#community-events).** - [Community's HackMD workspace](https://hackmd.io/team/local-uk?nav=overview) - [Previous & upcoming meetings](https://hackmd.io/V3ReKkEESzqyCNxWJdulOw#Meeting-Notes) - [Meeting notes template](https://hackmd.io/hgl1tYhOTTqDsIDwjArE5w) - [Chairing rota](https://hackmd.io/@local-uk/rkPK1Si7F) - [Guest speaker sign-up](https://hackmd.io/@local-uk/rkkzBTLOd) **Zoom URL:** https://zoom.us/j/95360073649 ## Meeting Minutes - **Chair:** Aman Goel - _Make sure to email <instructor.training@carpentries.org> after the meeting with trainee instructors who joined for the community discussion as part of the checkout_ - **Timekeeper:** - **Notetaker:** ### Agenda 0. Jannetta Steyn, she/her, Newcastle University 15. Saranjeet Kaur, Imperial College London **Icebreaker:** A soup you love? (Or hate?) ### Review of actions - [x] [Paste from last meeting] - [x] Send calendar invites from January 2026 onwards - carry over - [x] Create HackMD meeting notes for 2026 - carry over - [x] Get a Carpentries Zoom room for these calls - carry over - MB: raised moving away from Zoom given it is closed source, not privacy respected, etc, etc - AGo: yes, reasonable to poll community and see if we want to move to a different platform; but also, see what Carpentries is doing more broadly and whether they want ownership of the platform for this meeting - [x] December meeting - Skip or not? - Yes, we should skip. Next meeting will be Jan 26th. ### Announcements **[Libary Carpentry at 10](https://pad.carpentries.org/community-sessions-2025):** - Celebration last week featured UK Carpentries efforts (British Library, Uni of Manchester, Leeds, Kings, Southampton, others). - Talk about the latest ACRL library cookbook on [open science](https://alastore.ala.org/open-science-cookbook) with chapter we wrote, action on all to share where relevant to help get senior buy-in for Carpentries. - Discussion about the future of Library Carpentry, notes are shared. May be relevant for a UK Carpentries reflection. **Update to this meeting's monthly tasks** - Reminder from The Carpentries, we are requested to complete these forms after each call: - HOST: Please submit this form after the discussion session: https://forms.gle/fiN2NY7QvTReinMC7 - PARTICIPANTS: Please complete this form after the session: https://forms.gle/TqBQ8yrLfsktr2F9A - AW: asked if there was a rationale for seeking this feedback. Can not see clear benifit of many hundreds of people spending even a few moments after each meeting. His view was that he would not be filling this in. - MB: who is extracting the data from these forms and how will it be used, given that different groups will be running their (monthly) community meetings in different ways? (JS) Will the conveners of each meeting see the data? - (AGo and JS will take this feedback to the Carpentries core team.) - Can we work these into the template for 2026? ### Dicussion / Talk - Potential topic: Software Carpentry Governance Committee - Potential topic: NetworkPlus.
