OSM Route Monitoring - GRs & Long distance cycling

In Nederland: nog in concurrentiemodel. Wandelnet (GR) doet langeafstandsroutes.

What's the goal? Getting organizations feel like they are part of the map.

  • first make the difference visual
  • then teach the process
  • the org stays the "owner" of the route itself
  • create a task-list of what needs to be done

Existing tools

vmarc tool

What it does now:

  • compare to gpx
  • constant checking of quality
  • edit history filtered by relevance, for individual routes & groups

What needs to be done:

  • build an admin interface to maintain groups; e.g. to link OSM object to GPX file
  • get minutely updates (or start with daily updates)
  • extend the checks the tool makes possible

Ways Marc could use support

  • managing servers / sysadmin work

Old OKBE tool

What we really need

How to get there

Todo

  • s8evq to give table with GPX files + relations to vmarc. With this hard coded approach, we can show GR VZW a proof of concept
  • Pierre P to give more complete list of relation IDs linked to GPX files to vmarc
  • work out mapcomplete concept theme for validating on the field
  • use GR/SGR as a proof of concept
  • look for people who want to help administrate the servers > let's look a little further as well

OSMbe Project?

From Pierre:
Just to mention that on 2022-03-26 there was a SGR meeting in Namur with the internal "carto" group. I was invited to comment on the maintenance of the SGR routes in OSM. I explained the project which is fully accepted by the association. Experienced SGR Members (in OSM relations, ) will soon be invited to join the team and contribute.

I think we should then "officially" ask our Belgian contributors to work on the project.

The guidelines have been established in the "vadémécum" that Michel Dawirs and I produced.

Questions about this "vadémécum":

How to disseminate it?
Should it be put online in PDF format?
Should it be a wiki page?
Should it be translated into "nl" and/or "en"?
Should there be a "Belgian" version with GRP?

Another comment: the wiki list (https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/WikiProject_Belgium/Long_Distance_Walking_Routes) is not easy to update/complete to record the progress. There should be an internal tool (fr, nl, en) where to show tasks to be done (relations to create, relations to correct and where, relations to split, segments to add, avoiding to group main route + variations or links to railway station, etc.), to comment, to record.
