- Developing on containers
The Ruby LSP is a detached language server, which means it’s a background process that runs separately from the VS Code instance. To provide its functionality, the Ruby LSP must be running in the same place where your project files exist and dependencies are installed.

- VS Code supports connecting to containers out of the box, which makes all editor features work seamlessly. That includes language servers, the integrated terminal, etc. The VS Code documentation has instructions on how to develop on containers locally or remotely. Please check the following resources before opening an issue:

Please note that only Docker is officially supported as a backend by the Dev Container extension. 1

## コンテナ上での開発

- Ruby LSP は デタッチされた言語サーバ です。つまり、VS Code のインスタンスとは別にバックグラウンドで動作するプロセスです。
その機能を提供するためには、Ruby LSP はプロジェクトファイルや依存関係が存在する環境と同じ場所で動作する必要があります。

- VS Code は標準でコンテナへの接続をサポートしており、これによりエディタの全機能（言語サーバや統合ターミナルなど）がシームレスに動作します。
VS Code の公式ドキュメントには、ローカルまたはリモートでコンテナ上の開発を行う手順が記載されています。問題を報告する前に、以下のリソースを確認してください：

- なお、Dev Container 拡張機能でサポートされるバックエンドは 公式には Docker のみ です。

- Working with containers
The Visual Studio Code Dev Containers extension lets you use a Docker container as a full-featured development environment. It allows you to open any folder inside (or mounted into) a container and take advantage of Visual Studio Code's full feature set. A devcontainer.json file in your project tells VS Code how to access (or create) a development container with a well-defined tool and runtime stack. This container can be used to run an application or to separate tools, libraries, or runtimes needed for working with a codebase.

- Workspace files are mounted from the local file system or copied or cloned into the container. Extensions are installed and run inside the container, where they have full access to the tools, platform, and file system. This means that you can seamlessly switch your entire development environment just by connecting to a different container.

- This lets VS Code provide a local-quality development experience — including full IntelliSense (completions), code navigation, and debugging — regardless of where your tools (or code) are located.

## 拡張機能の管理

- VS Code の拡張機能は、UI／クライアント側（ローカル） または コンテナ内 のいずれかで実行されます。
テーマやスニペットなど VS Code の UI に影響を与える拡張機能はローカルにインストールされますが、ほとんどの拡張機能は特定のコンテナ内に存在します。
これにより、コンテナごとに必要な拡張機能だけをインストールし、別のコンテナに接続するだけでツールチェーン全体をシームレスに切り替えることが可能です。
- 拡張機能の自動インストール
- 拡張機能ビューからインストールした場合、正しい場所に自動的にインストールされます。
拡張機能がどこにインストールされているかは、カテゴリで判断できます。
- Local - Installed カテゴリ → ローカルにインストールされた拡張機能
- コンテナのカテゴリ → コンテナ内にインストールされた拡張機能
- 例：
- Workspace Extension Category（ワークスペース拡張カテゴリ）
- Local Extension Category（ローカル拡張カテゴリ）
- 拡張機能が正しく動作しない場合
- もしあなたが拡張機能の作者で、拡張機能が正しく動作しない、あるいは間違った場所にインストールされる場合は、[リモート開発サポート](Supporting Remote Development) を参照してください。
- リモートで実行が必要なローカル拡張
- リモートで実行する必要があるローカル拡張は、Local - Installed カテゴリで Disabled（無効） と表示されます。
- この場合、「Install」を選択すると、拡張機能がリモートホスト（コンテナ）にインストールされます。
- ローカル拡張をコンテナに一括インストール
- Local - Installed タイトルバー右側のクラウドボタンを使い、Install - Local Extensions in Dev Container: {Name} を選択すると、コンテナ内にインストールするローカル拡張を選べるドロップダウンが表示されます。
- 「Install all extensions」を選ぶと、すべてのローカル拡張をコンテナにインストール可能です。
- 注意点
- 一部の拡張機能では、コンテナ内に追加のソフトウェアをインストールする必要があります。問題が発生した場合は、拡張機能のドキュメントを参照してください。
- devcontainer.json への拡張機能追加
- 拡張機能は devcontainer.json に追加することも可能です。
これにより、コンテナ作成時に自動で拡張機能がインストールされます。
