<p>Smart Invoice is a free tool, built as a public good, by a team of freelancers operating out of the RaidGuild DAO.</p>
<p>It was originally created as an internal tool by the RaidGuild DAO to solve the most common challenges around receiving cryptocurrency payments for service work. It proved to be so effective, simple, and secure to use that we decided to spin up a public version.</p>
<p>Through the generosity of MolochDAO and their grants program, we’ve been able to continue building out Smart Invoice for anyone to use regardless of economic status, location, or technical ability.</p>

<h2>Frequently asked questions</h2>
<h4>Can I accept credit card payments and ACH transfers?</h4>
<p>No. Smart Invoice is cryptocurrency specific.</p>
<h4>What cryptocurrencies can I accept payment with?</h4>
<p>Smart Invoice supports Ethereum Mainnet, Gnosis Chain, Rinkeby Testnet.</p>
<p>Smart Invoice is built to accept any ERC-20 token. The most common are ETH, USDT, USDC, DAI, and BUSD. Smart invoice is also built to accept xDAI.</p>
<h4>Can I accept Bitcoin (BTC) payments?</h4>
<p>No. Smart Invoice is NOT configured to accept BTC payments. If your client sends a BTC payment to the wallet address listed on your invoice, those funds will be lost forever.</p>
<h4>Is this software really free?</h4>
<p>Yes! Smart Invoice doesn’t charge any fees for you to use it. There’s no trials, subscriptions, or hidden fees.</p>
<h4>Do you have your own token?</h4>
<p>Nope. Smart Invoice is a free public goods tool and doesn’t require any tokens to use.</p>
<h4>How do you make money?</h4>
<p>We don’t. Smart Invoice is a public good tool and its development has been funded through web3 grants and donations.</p>
<h4>Why are you doing this for free?</h4>
<p>To improve the overall freelance experience in web3, for both freelancers and their clients.</p>
<p>To minimize the risk of hiring a web3 freelancer online.</p>
<p>To have a safe and credible way to handle disputes without the burden of a formal written contract with an attorney and litigation.</p>

<h4>Do I need to install any software?</h4>
<p>No. Smart Invoice is a web-based app. You just need a browser and an internet connection.</p>
<h4>How do I create an account?</h4>
<p>Smart Invoice is a web3 application, which means you don’t actually create an account with an email address like you would with credit card invoicing tools.</p>
<p>To use Smart Invoice, you simply connect your cryptocurrency wallet to the site and you are logged in. Super easy and safe.</p>
<h4>How private are my transactions?</h4>
<p>Transactions on the blockchain are public for anyone to see.</p>
<p>Your transactions with Smart Invoice are no different. Your wallet address, balance, client’s wallet address, payment history, and payment amount are all visible to anyone that looks.</p>
<p>Additionally, all invoice data is stored publicly on IPFS and can be viewed by anyone. If you have privacy concerns, we recommend encrypting or adding permissions to your project agreement document before linking to it in the invoice.</p>
<h4>How does arbitration work?</h4>
<p>If there is a dispute, you or your client can “lock” funds held by that invoice. This lock triggers the arbitration provider (LexDAO, or the custom provider you chose) to review and resolve the dispute.</p>
<p>Based on the arbitrator’s review, they will determine who should receive funds and will send a transaction to Smart Invoice that transfers those funds to you or your client. Our recommended arbitrator, LexDAO, currently charges a 5% fee that is automatically deducted from the funded milestone for their arbitration services.</p>
<h4>Do you provide support if I need help?</h4>
<p>Yes. Please view our <a href="https://docs.smartinvoice.xyz/">documentation here</a> first. If you still need help, you can post a message in the <a href="https://discord.com/channels/684227450204323876/824346245460000809">product support channel</a> in the RaidGuild Discord (RaidGuild is the DAO that operates Smart Invoice). <h3>Our Story</h3>
<p>In October 2020, a development service DAO by the name of RaidGuild realized they had a problem: there was no easy, or affordable, way to safely transact with their web3 clients.</p>
<p>Without the safeguards of the traditional banking system, a simple mistake when transferring cryptocurrencies could result in all funds being lost forever. Not ideal for the DAO, or the client.</p>
<p>An invoicing system was needed.</p>
<p>But that wasn’t enough.</p>
<p>In the web3 world, it’s normal to “do business” with people you don’t know, and who don’t share their real identity with you.</p>
<p>So there needed to be a way to ensure the service provider didn’t run away with the money, and the client didn’t run away without paying.</p>
<p>An escrow system was needed.</p>
<p>But that still wasn’t enough.</p>
<p>What if there was a dispute? How would the funds get released from escrow? Who would make that decision, and would they be unbiased?</p>
<p>Integrated arbitration was needed.</p>
<p>But that still wasn’t enough.</p>
<p>Who would control this invoicing, escrow, and arbitration tool? Would there be a conflict of interest if the DAO controlled the technology behind the payment system, and was the service provider?</p>
<p>Smart contracts were needed.</p>
<p>So a team of RaidGuild developers began building a tool that combined cryptocurrency invoicing, escrow, arbitration, and smart contracts.</p>
<p>The result was an internal tool called Smart Escrow.</p>
<p>It solved the DAO’s biggest challenges when transacting with web3 clients, and was provably safe to use. This tool proved to be so effective and popular with clients, that the DAO decided to create a public version that anyone online could use, even if they were not part of the RaidGuild DAO.</p>
<p>And so… Smart Invoice was born.</p>
<p>As time went by, several members of the DAO realized Smart Invoice was just a bit too difficult to use by non-developers. And that it didn’t provide similar functionality to the web2 software most freelancers already used.</p>
<p>So this new team of 4 decided to reboot Smart Invoice to make it even more powerful and easier to use, so that any freelancer, anywhere, could safely get paid for their work with cryptocurrency.</p>
<p>MolochDAO supported the team’s vision and awarded them with a grant so they could build the ultimate crypto invoicing and escrow tool as a public good.</p>
<p>Since then, the team has been working hard to build the Smart Invoice you see today.</p>
