    # Art collective teamLab’s universal concept - Daisuke Sakai 大會筆記 {%hackmd D_yXRZ3kQuiR5RjV0P_kPg %} ###### tags: `#FEDC2018` ## 英文筆記 ### Background Information Founded in 2001 Collective, interdisciplinary creative group that includes **artists**, **programmers**, **engineers**, **CG animators**, **mathematicians**, **architects**, **web and print graphic designers** and **editors**. Referring to themselves as “**Ultra-technologists**” - more than 600 members - about more than 300 engineers ### Digital Art by teamLab We present some keywords we used in our concepts. ### Body Immersive immerse yourself(all five senses: sight , hearing , taste , smell, and touch) in the surrounding. What we want to do is to put you in the environment. ### teamLab Planets We opeped up two muesums in Tokyo. This is what we called Crystal Universe: https://www.teamlab.art/w/crystaluniverse You can put your own star in the universe, so you are inside in this way. ### Circulum Formosa We do have a project in Taiwan as well. What we do is called digital art. Our art is very simple and interactive so everyone can understand. Even children and old people can understand. Not by your eyes, you can be a part of the artwork. We use Taiwan's flowers and the flowers will change according to the seasons. You'll never see the same things again so you have to be there. ### Floating Flower Garden - Flowers and I are of the same root, the garden and I are one. Sometimes we use real things such as flowers. Everything is dynamic in the garden, we can change every small detail. Body Immersive is... to make the body inside. Another concept is ### Relationship Among People Changing the Relationships Among People: Making the Presence of Others a Positive Experience I will show you what I mean here (by showing the video here). In the beginning, we started with small project but as we grew bigger, we tried to create a full immersive experience ### Flowers and People, Cannot be controlled but Live Together** A lot of people came, but sadly too many people came. Too many people touched the flowers too much so there was no flowers. Unlike Mona Lisa where the audience focused on the artwork, our artworks engage our audience through interactive design. Everyone can influence the presentation of the artwork ### Transending Boundaries Unlike original artworks, every artwork has its own boundary. They are not connected to each other. Because we do our works in digital, we can network everything in one piece. **Second Museum**: Mori Building Digital ArtWork Museum: https://borderless.teamlab.art/ Everything is connected and there are no borders. The birds will interact as they move up and down. Everyone inside is influcing the scenes. Everyone is the clip in the scene. "Realize that everything connects to everything else" This is we called the borderless. ### Digitized City Digitized Nature We did the opening show for the museum. Everyone throws in their own characters and make the story together. ### A Forest where Gods Live Permanent Museum in Singapore: https://www.teamlab.art/e/nms You can just enjoy the nature. ### Collaborative Creatiion: "Co-Creation" https://www.teamlab.art/w/block-town/ We do a lot of kids project. This is one of the kid project we did in Taipei (2016). In this artwork, you just put a block in that (the artwork). You can interact with it. About 10 kids can play together. Becuase the ground is so big that kids cannot touch the other side, so the kids started to copy each other and later made a small town together. ### sketch Aquarium https://www.teamlab.art/w/aquarium/ Kids draw their own fish, scan it and insert it into the interactive screen. Children drew in 2D, but we made it into a 3D model. Manipulating 3D in a big thing in the future. Ex. transforming 2D artworks into 3D interactive objects. ### Digital Solutions by teamLab The other side of our company is we do digital solutions. Art has no goal while design has a goal -Tokyo Disney Resort app you can do everything in the app. E.g. ticket, map At first, they (Disney) don't want their users to use smart phones in the park. We talked to them. Everyone is already touching it. Why don't we just make the experience different (by using our app). You don't need anything but the smart phone app. Then you can be able to do everything. -Banking app : Resona A lot of banking app in Japan are not so good, so we just make one to make the experience better. -Airline Milage app: ANA Goal: make engagement with customer. -Vending Machine app: Acure pass The goal is to make an innovative vending machine. At first, we don't know anything about vending machine especially our customers. Therefore, we do a research about vendineg machine. -App for Sleep:Muji (Product:Pillow) We did a promotion for Muji. We want to make them more relaxed and in 3D. It is very simple and it is the app that makes you sleepy. (Laugh XD) http://sleep.muji.net/ Even though it is a one-time promotion, it helps to connect people and connect with Muji. We have to wait unil actors fell asleep so we can reach that kind of relax in the scene. - Digital Informaiton Wall https://www.teamlab.art/e/parco/ This is the museum in Japan. A touchscreen building guide and display window system for commercial facilities that displays interactive content utilizing a large touchscreen display. 1000 photos can be shown on the screen at one time, taken from data on the numerous products carried by every shop in the shopping center. XiaoMi Shop in China Becasue we see people who can design, can make the better things. ### Think with team, make it by Team. We have expanded from 5 people to over 600 people. We don't like to just think, we like to do it, so we keep doing the prototypes, prototypes, prototypes.... The boundaries of genre will be disappeared in the digital age, and it will be more complicated to divide teams by projects. For example, when a smartphone was born, it was not able to make a separation between design and technology. For that reason, we believe that is necessary to make a new thing by building a team with members in various specialties and thinking and bringing their ability to full play together.
