Virbhanpur Village

we surveyed about 10 girls in this village, the group photo is below. The Minimum age is 10 yrs and maximum age is 20. 7 out of 10 girls are doing tailoring courses, 2 of them doing computer courses and one woman doing beautician course. the surevy data is available here.

Dhuriya Village

We met the girls from this village during our field visit to Mirazapur. Since then we were in constant touch over the phone. Many girls doesn't have personal phone with them. We had to call the family first and then talk to the girls. Group meetings we did whatsapp video call but always under the supervision of the elders in the village.

Our observations from this village:

  1. No girls own a smart phone or feature phones.
  2. Every family has phones or at least one smartphone. Phones are either with parents or brothers.
  3. Family has a fear that girls might misuse if they have personal phone.
  4. Most of the girls said before they get married they want to learn something and be ready to earn on their own.
  5. Tailoring and Beautician are the top identified interest. We tried to dig up their actual skills either from their said interests or which they think may not be an income generable skills like dancing, singing, mehandi designs, comedy, shayari.

Suggestions for future activities

Activities list: Collecting suggestions from various people and the girls themselves.

Some of the current thoughts are on initiating enterpreneriual excercises and skill awareness communications.

  1. We can form two groups G1 and G2. G1 has such people who wants to provide services or products and earn from it. G2 has such people who are consumers (looking for services).
  2. Both the groups are sitting at home during lockdown still want to find a way to do this business.
  3. Example G1 has a Hindi teacher who stays in UP and G2 has a student who wants to learn Hindi who stays in TN. Ask them to name an online platform to do so. If a girl knows then the group wins, otherwise we will let them know. Sell home made masks (flipkart, amazon, any other local administration platform if any), agriculture products (horticulture websites or contacts), teaching yoga, dance, meditation, tailoring, food products, Anything of this sort which we can develop together with them.
  4. If anyone interested to learn about such platform then we can make short ppt or slides for easy set up in the language they prefer.
  5. Also organise online workshops for certain learning and experience sharing needs - such as accounting, business plan development, marketing, skill training, etc
