# Promoting your talk(s) at Community Over Code

Congratulations. Your talk was accepted to Community Over Code. Now what?
You can, and should promote your talk, in all the various places where interested audiences might be. This document offers some suggestions of how, and where, you might do this.
## Project mailing lists
The first and easiest place to promote your talk is on your project's mailing lists.
The nature of your talk will determine which list, or lists, you should post to. If your talk is primarily end-user focused, such as a tutorial or introducing specific new features, then the user list is the more logical choice, for example.
Here are the key elements that should be in your email to the project mailing list:
* The name, date, and location of the event
*Community Over Code North America will be held in Denver, Colorado, USA, October 7-10 2024, at the Grand Hyatt Denver*
* Mention whether your talk is standalone, or is part of a larger track of content featuring your project. It may help to coordinate with some of the other speakers to write your message, so that you don't end up with a dozen similar-sounding messages
*I will be presenting [TITLE] as part of the Search track. Other talks include [ONE] by [Speaker] and [TWO] by [Other Speaker].*
* Mention other aspects of the conference that you think will be valuable to the community.
*Additionally, we'll be scheduling a code sprint while we're there, and the more of us we can get there, the more progress we can make on [FEATURE].*
* Finally, a clear call to action, asking people to register, and to help with the promotion.
*To register for the event, go to [LINK]. Committers get a special rate of [Amount]. Register soon. The early bird rates end on [DATE]. Please help us promote this event on your own social media, using #CommunityOverCode hashtag for visibility.*
## Your project's website
Your project should promote its presence at the conference. There are a number of ways to do this, but the simplest one is to use the [official event promotion tool](https://www.apachecon.com/event-images/) which lets you include the most current image and link in your site, by using a small javascript snippet. This then causes the image to be updated automatically whenever there is a new upcoming event.
If you want to go further than this, and particularly if your project is involved in one of the tracks at the event, we encourage you to mention the event, along with several speaker faces, on your project's front page.
## Social Media
If you use social media, we encourage you to promote your talk(s) there. The specific style of your message will, of course, vary from one social media platform to another, with different limitations on content length being a major differentiator.
The general contents of the messages should follow the guidelines given in the Mailing Lists section above.
At a minium, please include:
* The #CommunityOverCode hashtag
* A link to the event website. A link to your specific talk, or to the general schedule page is also a good alternative here
* A mention of the official event presence on that particular social media platform, if any. For example @TheASF on Twitter, or the-apache-software-foundation on LinkedIn
Where possible, include a picture of your face, or even better, a picture of yourself speaking at some previous event. This event is primarily about human connections, and representing that with pictures is more effective than just text. You can also find good images at [photos.apachecon.com](https://photos.apachecon.com/) if you prefer not to use your own picture.
We encourage you to watch for official social media posts, and amplify these from both your personal and project social media presences.
## Other Promotion Opportunities
[The Voice Of Apache](https://feathercast.apache.org) will be doing a number of short videos ahead of the event in order to promote it. This will hopefully include interview with several presenters about their talks. If you would like to volunteer for one of these spots, please get in touch, at feathercast@apache.org
