WizardAmigos CodeCamp 2019
===

Many of you signed up for it and today we finally start with the [WizardAmigos CodeCamp 2019 in Chiang Mai (Thailand) :-)](https://wizardamigos-codecamp2019.herokuapp.com/)
Whats next?
If you are here already, let's meet up and if you are not, here's some tips for a smoother ride!
DON'T BOOK THE PLACE ONLINE
---
Do not book online a place to stay from abroad, because they are much more expensive when you book them online (e.g. airbnb, booking.com, etc...) and if you need an address for when you fill out your VISA, just use ours (send me a private message) so you will be visiting us and the WizardAmigos CodeCamp
CALL THAI EMBASSY for exact VISA requirements
---

>Regarding VISA - many countries just get free VISA on arrival for 15-30 days. Some don't, but the best way to make sure is look up the Embassy of Thailand in your country and give them a call to ask for all the details. Usually this is an easy process, not too expensive if not free and you can handle most of the beauraucracy on the airport in Chiang Mai - but ask the embassy rather than relying too much on information on the internet.
BOOK FLIGHT WITH SKYSCANNER
---
If you still did not book your flight, go immediately to https://skyscanner.com and book your tickets to Chiang Mai.
(If you find a cheaper flight to Bangkok or Phuket - there is a super comfortable bus which drives you from there to Chiang Mai and costs around 15 USD from Bangkok or 30 USD from Phuket)

GET "AIS" SIM CARD for mobile internet
---
Once you are in Thailand, buy an AIS SIM card (e.g. on the Airport) - but others are ok too, so you make sure to have mobile internet during your stay :-)

DOWNLOAD "GRAB" APP for rides around the city
---
First thing then - Download the "GRAB" app (=UBER in Thailand) and
once you arrive in Chiang Mai.

MEET IN "MAYA SHOPPING MALL" :-)
---
Order a ride to "MAYA Shopping Mall" then give us a call or send us a message, because we are staying in a Condominium less then 5 minutes walking time from Maya Shopping Mall.
(A ride with GRAB in the city is usually around 1USD (=30THB), but the first one from the Airport might be around 200-250 THB)

STORE LUGGAGE
---
You can leave your luggage at the information desk on the ground floor in the MAYA Shopping Mall. It's free for up to 4 hours and they give you a card number for you to pick it up later. You can then go and relax and eat something in the mall and start visiting potential places to book an apartment for your stay.

SEARCH FOR PLACE TO STAY
---
Depending on your budget, we fund a bunch of places around Maya Shopping Mall which are worth checking out.
Costs per month:
A. Huay Keaw Residence (6-8k THB)
B. PT-Residence (9-10k THB)
C. Chomdoi 2 Condo (8-12k THB)
D. Play Condo (18-21k THB)
E. S-Condo (25-32k THB)
F. Green Hill (10k THB) -- recommended
These are all studio or one bedroom apartments with doubble bed (2 people) and sometimes even additional couch (S-condo for example can easily host 3 people).
Most of these condos come with a swimming pool and a little gym.

RENT AGREEMENT & PAYMENT
---
You can find them on google maps.
Rents here always need to be paid in cash so you can withdraw at a local ATM. They all require you to pay DOUBLE, one month rent + one month deposit (=same as one month rent), but you get the deposit back at the end of your stay.
The above prices work only if you stay for a month, but even if you stay only 2-3 weeks, paying for a month is usually still cheaper.
When you move out, you will also be charged an additional costs for the utilities: electricity (6 THB per kwh) and water (10 THB per unit)
COWORKING
---
You can rent a coworking space for full month but it will cost you around 3500 THB. Instead, you can use many coworking cafes where nobody will bother you if you sit there for many hours with just one coffee. We will use Maya shopping mall's C.A.M.P. Library caffee a lot and we usually also it in Maya since they have great and cheap vegan food (but also tons of non-vegan options).

COSTS OF LIVING (food, ...)
---
Regarding food - you can easily get a meal outside for around 50-70 THB, so if you have 3 meals a day, that's 150-210 THB per day, which is 4500-6750 THB ...but it is also possible to eat even cheaper than that if you stick to restaurants for locals where a meal is usually 30-45 THB per meal.
---
SUMMARY
---
~5000 THB for food
~2x10,000 THB for rent (but you get back 1x10,000 at the end)
So if you add your flight and VISA costs to that, everything you have beyond it is your pocket money :-)
QUESTIONS
---
If you have any questions, please reach out, we can help as much as we can to make this happen. We are looking forward to see as many of you as possible.
