During our field work with rural communities we found the existing low cost technological solutions like smartphones and laptop to be ill suited for community use; Thus we set out on a journey to design and produce a modular,inclusive and cost effective intervention based on off the shelf components, local materials and skills.
For past several years Janastu has been working on Community Owned Wireless (COW) Mesh Networks in rural areas, most recently in Mirazapur,UP. With the current COVID Lockdowns and emphasis on 'distance learning', the accessibily and scalability of devices deployed to interact with the network becomes an important factor.
