    # Striver ## Technologies - Backend - PostgreSQL for database - Psycopg2 (connecting flask to db), SQLAlchemy (read/write to database) - Flask - Validation of forms Werkzeug - Frontend - Bootstrap (jinja2 templating with flask) - Forms -> wtf forms - Deployment - Heroku (free) - Digital Ocean droplet using Docker (takes longer) - $60 free credit for github education, enough to host for ~10 months - Notion - https://www.notion.so/invite/a915d06164ba9799a1b332bb5f4c5b918c59db9f - Docs - https://github.com/benkilimnik/Striver - https://flask.palletsprojects.com/en/1.1.x/quickstart/ - https://pipenv.pypa.io/en/latest/ - https://pythonhosted.org/watchdog/ - https://pythonhosted.org/Flask-Bootstrap/ - https://docs.python.org/3/tutorial/ ## Must Haves - Login/Signup - Homepage of displayed challenges ('The Arena') - Button 'Discover' to find new challenges - Filter by category - Each category of challenge has one of a finite number of possible images (to make the homepage look more interesting) - Profile pages - Projects - Reputation - Create challenges page - What happens when you submit a challenge? Goes to public directory - Up vote/down vote system - Templates for unified structure? - View challenge page - what does a user see when they click on a challenge page? - Full description, user who created it, reputation score, completion rate, up votes, number of views - [X] klfjgdklj - Rational for Education theme - Personal development, learning new skills while stuck at home in era of corona. Staying accountable to your goals and not drowning in netflix - Place to show off projects vs. Accountability/partner system - ## Shiny's - Portfolio projects - Community reviewed projects you've completed - Run ads for employers to find talented folks - Portal to showcase the cool projects you've done - Profile on Striver is like your project/skill showcase - How keep quality of projects high? Community review? - We're adapting stackoverflow's reputation system to motivate ppl to write resource guides. And we're extending LinkedIn's online CV idea, by providing showcase of projects? - Idea is to get your work out there and noticed by others, not hidden away on your harddrive. Pics, vids, audio - Reputation system - Gain points for completing and not abandoning challenges, match based on reputation, especially useful for long term challenges - Specific to a topic (CS, creative writing, digital photo editing etc.) - Reputation gained by how many upvotes the challenge receives - interactive challenge where users can collaborate on different games/challenges together. Add friends - Friend groups to work together on long term projects - Interactive goal tracker (ppl can join user created goals) - setup resource page with references to other pages/tools/applications with each goal set in mind - Accountability system/how to track progress? Post images, text, vids of goal completion? - Checkpoints (tracking progress) - E.g. marathon, 5 miles, 10miles etc. - Home page displays all active challenges - Completion rate for challenges (only 3 in hundred actually completed, avg time taken, etc) - Can make private and public challenges - (IMPORTANT)Search algorithms to find challenges/users - Core Functionality - Ability for users to make challenges/signin - homepage - make challenges - More fields/info that can be added to a posted challenge (resource page, duration, reviews of ppl who done it) - If have enough reputation can leave reviews and edit the fields/description/resource page of a challenge - ppl participate in challenges and see each other's challenges - progress tracker/checkpoints - Friends/groups -resources page where users can add - What's on the challenge page: - User posted it - Number of ppl completed - Ppl currently working on it - personal progress bar - - Password - never store plain text password and also not raw hash, always salt hash - store usernames and their salt and the hash of the salted password. Reqs - frontend: html, javascript, css - backend: database - Have to use flask - Write pure javascript Github - use feature branch model (work on feature, then merge into develop, always have working version on master) ## Additional Notes • Connects two ppl who motivate each other to achieve their goals. Key is creating human accountability (to help ppl block out distractions and keep them on track) ○ What Khan Academy and the other online learning platforms are missing is human interaction. Like Tinder but not romantic. Omegle, but without the ducks. ○ App matches up ppl with similar goals ○ Purpose of Striver is to push ppl out of their comfort zone when it comes to learning new things and gaining new experiences ○ You learn efficiently about the practical aspects of a subject/field of study/area of interest. A timed challenge forces you to approach the task in the most efficient way possible, cutting corners whenever possible to achieve maximum essential functionality. GoalBuds is especially effective for learning by doing/making a product • **Specifications** ○ Requires both ppl to be present (Website better than app, needs access to internet for streaming) § System can stay anonymous when it comes to names, age, address etc. Only data displayed will be language and data/files required for accountability system ○ Includes challenge generator (classified by topics e.g. programming) ○ Allow self-created challenges or publish to community ○ Use screensharing or screenshot maker and voice chat for accountability ○ Time extension button (both players have to accept) ○ System suggests resources for each project • **Specs of challenges** ○ Skill-based? Best if product oriented and somehow assessable for accountabilities sake (e.g. a sound file, pic, file) ○ Cooler would be more open-ended things like "make friends/talk to a stranger in the train" ---- Include challenge generator that suggests fun challenges without required accountability. Can share to community/post to fellow strivers (friends on platform) if so desired. Turns into a story sharing platform that way as well.) ---- Sponsorships from companies/education orgs that provide programs (digital or real life courses) useful to create projects similar to challenge ------- Provide programs with limited trial for challenge, then offer discount link to buy software with link commission = monetisation). Write message to users that we get commission, it's helping pay our bills ---- Spotlight author of each resource section (Preparing for battle/Prep) • Goal Jam / Enter the Arena ○ Timer edition with competitive feel to achieve tasks/mini goals/step goals in limited time • Example challenges ○ 1h voice acting (provide guide vids/materials for accents etc.) ○ Invent a civilization and write about its lore (fantasy/creativity). Write a play about smthn (suggest topics for users to write about?). Start with creative writing challenges. ○ Create a language ○ Encrypt a message ○ 1h photoshop ○ 1h make a funny movie/trailer with imovie ○ Memorize/read smth (report on it to Goalbud? Nah, boring like hw) ○ Draw a picture (digital or real life) Use web analytics to assess success of website https://shanebarker.com/blog/web-analytics-tools/ - The point is to learn and create something fun, not to produce a polished product. Problem of ppl stealing each other's work? Have a section on honesty on website: each user should use platform in good faith.... Have users rate each others creation?? - Users should be able to communicate. It is a platform to meet ppl interested in learning about the same thing. - Screenshare through web interface? What can do with only a text editor? Point is that there are many ways to create a product. Shouldn't be limited to a single platform or editor. Flexibility of sharing through screen share. Can use recommended programs or anything else. {%hackmd theme-dark %}
