> [!Important] > The workshop preparations have begun, and we are recruiting event staff and volunteers. Please visit [this page](https://ooni-research.ocf.tw/docs/event-workshop-2025/) to get the latest event updates. Registration is expected to start in July 2025. In Taiwan, we enjoy a relatively high level of internet freedom compared to other countries. However, we must not overlook the fact that citizens in neighboring countries are subject to strict state surveillance and internet censorship. In such a context, effectively circumventing and breaking through the barriers hindering internet freedom has become a concern for many. This workshop focuses on open source tools and their applications in promoting internet freedom. We will guide participants step-by-step to become familiar with Tor and Tails tools, enabling them to establish anonymous networks and use encrypted operating systems in daily operations, thereby ensuring online privacy. Additionally, we will introduce the OONI Probe tool, helping participants verify the current state of internet freedom. Through OONI Explorer's observational data, participants can delve into research and exploration related to internet freedom issues, gaining a comprehensive understanding of diverse online environments. This workshop is particularly suitable for members of the media, independent journalists, civic organizations, and open source technology community partners. Whether you're an experienced tech expert or a newcomer to the field, we welcome your participation. Through this workshop, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the potential of open source tools in safeguarding internet freedom, enhancing their capabilities to cope with rigorous internet surveillance environments. Through this event, we aim to promote information transparency and openness, inspiring more individuals to engage in actions and advocacy for internet freedom. With the support of the open source community, we strive to create a freer and more open internet environment. We sincerely believe that only through collaborative efforts can we foster the development of a truly inclusive and sustainable internet ecosystem. We warmly invite you to join this Internet Freedom and Anonymous Networks Workshop hosted by the Open Culture Foundation. Together, let's explore the limitless possibilities of open source technology in advancing internet freedom. Let us work collectively within the open source community to create a more free and democratic information world.
