Rust Community 2021 workshop

Who should attend?

Everyone interested in community team work. Any amount of experience is fair! We are also searching for people who can coach and help initiatives to help running the workshop.

Attendee Structure

For better structuring of the course, it's best if people :

• Currently part of the community team
• Currently part in leading initiatives
• Interested in being part of the community team
• Interested in leading initiatives
• Previous community work experience
• Past members who are interested in running a workshop
• Past members who are interested in coaching a group

Proposal: 4 sessions/2 hours over 2 weeks. February ongoing.

1-2 Pre Meetings for organisers. Maybe early January?

Workshop Structure

• Workshop leads meet before the main workshop and draft exercises
• These exercises need to be aimed at:
  • Emphasing newcomers to come up with ideas
  • Allow participants to judge the amount of work an initiative takes
  • Helps participants to find something they want to work on week for week
• Allows participants to get to know each other

Goals

Given the Rust projects growth, the role of the community team is ever changing. This has lead to a situation where the community team runs less initiatives and is mainly concerned on keeping things up and running.

This workshop is intended as a spot to come up with new ideas while also trying to attract new people.

Desired outcome

• A "contribution model" for the community team
  • Which time pattern is needed for which tasks?
  • How much time is required for certain positions?
• A charter for the community team
  • What does the community team do?
  • Where can it support other teams?
  • Where does it expect to be involved?
• A set of initiatives for 2021
  • Preferably fit for contribution by newcomers
• A set of "job descriptions" for members
  • For lack of better terms: ways you can be involved in
• A coaching plan
