    # How To Copy And Paste on A Laptop: Things to Know The most commonly used commands in every operating system, whether it be Windows or macOS, are copied and pasted. However, not everyone is aware of how to utilize these capabilities. Thankfully, there are various quick ways to accomplish this using a mouse, trackpad, or another device. This article demonstrates **[how to copy and paste on a laptop](https://medcpu.com/how-to-copy-and-paste-on-a-laptop/)**. Every piece of software on machines running Windows and Macs must follow the instructions. Let's begin with the [MedCPU](https://medcpu.com/). Using the mouse to copy and paste In Windows 10 Step 1: The first step in copying and pasting is correctly choosing the material that you intend to duplicate. If you want to copy a picture, right-click it and choose Copy Image from the menu that appears. Next, move on to step 3. To highlight text, left-click and drag the mouse pointer over the desired area of the document or browser window. Right-click an item once for folders and other objects, or left-click and drag a selection box around several files. If you prefer to use the computer keyboard, hold down the Ctrl key while selecting several files or select the first item in a list while holding down the Shift key, and then select the last thing you want to copy. Step 2: Once the material you want to copy is highlighted, right-click while moving the cursor over any area of it, then choose Copy from the drop-down option that appears. Step 3: Place your cursor where you want the copied picture, text, or file to go once you've copied it. Next, right-click and choose Paste from the drop-down option that appears. In macOS Step 1: When using an Apple mouse to copy text, click and drag the cursor over the area of the document or webpage you want to emphasize. Click on the item once to choose files and folders. Alternatively, you may choose many files by clicking and dragging a selection box. You'll also need to use the keyboard to highlight an image quickly. To duplicate and save a picture to your clipboard, hold down the Control key while clicking the image and choosing Copy Image. Next, move on to step 3. Step 2: After you've highlighted the material you wish to copy, right-click while your cursor is over any area of the chosen text and choose Copy from the drop-down menu that appears. Step 3: Once everything you want has been copied, position your cursor where you want the material to be pasted, hold Ctrl while clicking, and then choose Paste from the drop-down option that appears. Using a keyboard to copy and paste Copying and pasting content is a time-saving technique that can help you generate more views for your blog. By using keyboard shortcuts, you can easily cut and paste your blog posts and generate more leads and traffic to your website. In Windows 10 Step 1: Move the flashing cursor to the sentence or paragraph you want to copy using the Arrow keys, then hit the Shift key. A selection box will emerge all around the text as you keep moving the mouse over it. Once you've highlighted everything you want to, stop. You may navigate between sections of a folder you're in for files and folders by pressing the Tab key. Hold down the Shift key while using the Arrow keys to select all of the folders you want to copy when one is highlighted. The same idea applies to images, which are a little trickier. Locate the image you want to pick by using the Tab and Arrow keys together. To highlight a selection, move it over it while pressing and holding the Shift key. Step 2: When your file, text, or picture is highlighted, hit the C key while continuing to hold down the Ctrl key to copy it. Step 3: Once you've copied the material you want, move it to the desired location and press the Ctrl key once again. However, this time, hit the V key. You should now have your picture, text, or folder placed exactly where you want it. In macOS Step 1: You can switch between text boxes for keyboard selection with the Tab key, however, it's a little less flexible on macOS than on Windows. Holding the Shift key while using the arrow keys will allow you to highlight the text you want to copy after you have reached the portion you want to highlight. Alternately, position the pointer where you desire using the mouse, and then follow the preceding procedure. Step 2: When everything has been selected, hit C while depressing the Command key to copy. (Command + C) Step 3: Once all of the material you want has been copied, position your cursor where you want it to be pasted, hold down the Command key, and then press the V key to do so. (Command + V) Using the menu bar to copy and paste In Windows 10 Step 1: Although many programs have their own menu systems that allow for copying and pasting, you will need to use the mouse or keyboard to highlight the text you wish to copy. Use the techniques mentioned above to highlight the content you want to copy. Step 2: After you have highlighted your desired material, go to your application's or folder's top menu bar and select Edit from the Home button menu. Step 3: From the ensuing drop-down menu, choose Copy. If you can't find that specific command, check for the copy function's traditional superimposed paper symbol, which is used in many programs. Step 4: When you've copied the content you need to replicate, choose Paste from the drop-down option. In macOS Step 1: The best course of action is to highlight the text, image, files, or directories using one of the aforementioned techniques because most apps do not highlight by default. Step 2: Go to the Gear icon or Edit menu after you've selected the information you wish to copy, whether it's text, a picture, or both. From the ensuing drop-down menu, choose Copy. This procedure may vary somewhat from application to application, but it will generally be the same. Step 3: Select the data you want to copy to the clipboard, and then pick the file or directory you want to paste it into. Step 4: If you're using Mac OS, select the Gear icon. If you're using Windows, select Edit from the menu. When a drop-down menu of choices appears, choose Paste to add the content you just copied to your document. I can't copy and paste on my laptop, why is that? It is not always possible to copy text or other stuff from applications or websites. Some applications specifically forbid users from duplicating anything. On restricted websites, you can copy using the Enable Copy plugin for Google Chrome. However, some programs can include a different keyboard shortcut or a Copy and Paste option in one of the app's menus (look for an Edit tab or a Gear icon). The Copy button in certain other applications may resemble two overlapping shapes. You may learn how to copy and paste into a particular software by conducting a Google search.
