Once my creation is finished, in order to be able to print it in 3D I have to:
- [ ] export as a .STL
- [ ] export as a .SVG
- [ ] Send it to the 3D machine by e-mail
All the following sentences are right except one. Which one?
- [ ] on Tinkercad I can import an illustrator 2D file to transform it into 3D model
- [ ] on Tinkercad I can add .jpeg file as a color map
- [ ] on Tinkercad I can import an existing 3D file to modify it
- [ ] in Tinkercad I can add text
To print my 3D design once it is done:
- [ ] I click on the "export" button
- [ ] I click on the "import" button
- [ ] I click on the "send to" button
What are the basic shapes called in Tinkercad?
- [ ] Fundamentals
- [ ] Primitives
- [ ] Integrals
To overlap a solid on top of the surface of another solid:
- [ ] I create a work plane on top of the second solid
- [ ] I move the 2 solids manually to the right place
- [ ] I use the alignment tools to juxtapose the 2 solids
All these other softwares are 3D modeling tools, except one. Which one?
- [ ] Blender
- [ ] SketchUp
- [ ] Rhinoceros 3D
- [ ] Arduino
When you group a solid shape with a hole, you get:
- [ ] two holes
- [ ] three solids
- [ ] a drilled solid
To align two 3D shapes, I must:
- [ ] directly move the two elements on the workplane
- [ ] select the two elements & use the alignment tool
- [ ] type the two elements' coordinates
what does the color of my object on screen means?
- [ ] it warns me if the shape is 3D printable or not
- [ ] it means nothing, I can change it as I wish
- [ ] it's the color I want to 3D print
on Tinkercad, the group button is a way to:
- [ ] union your parts as one object
- [ ] export your model
- [ ] sort the objects by color

## Assignment / Make it happen!
:::warning
**This assignment is mandatory.** If you update your work but the link doesn't change, you don't need to re-submit it.
:::
### Tools
[Autodesk Tinkercad](https://tinkercad.com/) is an online platform that allows you to draw 3D parts very easily thanks to a simple and refined interface. Tinkercad is a good solution for **beginners to start 3D design**. Other softwares allow much more complex modelling and fulfil other functions such as friction studies or aerodynamic simulations. To learn more, read the going further..
### Project
**Design the custom lego brick of your dreams!** Follow the video to design a classical lego brick using [Tinkercad](https://www.tinkercad.com/) then customize it.
#### Evaluation criteria
- **Participation: 5 points**
Time spent on course & interaction with resources
- **Design: 5 points**
Logic, groups, booleans, etc.
- **Accuracy: 5 points**
Respect of the dimensions, precision of the rotations/symmetries, etc.
- **Customization: 5 points**
Singularity of the proposition
### Submit
To ensure that you submit your work properly, please follow the instructions just below:
:::warning
1. Log in on your account on [Tinkercad](https://www.tinkercad.com/)
2. Follow the steps shown [in this video](https://imgur.com/ONtxEBL)
- On your dashboard, click on the gearwheel on the top right of your design
- Under _"Privacy"_ choose _"Public"_\< /li\>
- Click on your design to open the preview
- Copy the link of your thing on the navbar of your browser
3. Paste the link of your work right below 👇
4. If you are using a shared computer (like the imacs in the maker's lab) make sure you log out of your tinkercad account before you leave.

## Going further
### Definitions
3D Design has multiple applications such as product design, architectural modeling, special effects for cinema, creation and animation of video game characters, constraints verification, aerodynamic studies and many more. This introduction is oriented towards **3D printing and product design**.
There is a wide variety of [3D modeling tools](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_3D_modeling_software), each one is oriented to a specific domain. The main 3D modeling techniques are :
- [Polygonal Modeling](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polygonal_modeling): the model si created by placing points in 3D space and connecting then by line segments to form polygons.
- [NURBS Modeling](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-uniform_rational_B-spline): the surface geometry is generated by curves driven by mathematical equations.
- [Solid Modeling](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid_modeling): the objects are created by combining solid bodies into a single 3D design, this is the type of modeling used in **Tinkercad**
- [Generative Modeling](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generative_Modelling_Language): the geometry is automaticly generated by a program according to specific parameters.
### Tools
- [Fusion 360](https://www.autodesk.com/products/fusion-360/students-teachers-educators), a very complete 3D modeling software (but much longer to master than Tinkercad). If you feel like a 3D designer, just go for it: Your student status allows you to **download it for free**!
- [Vectary](https://www.vectary.com/), accessible on-browser modeling tools that offers lots of tools to create beautiful 3D images.
- [Onshape](https://www.onshape.com/products/education), on-browser CAD tool that offers professionnal modeling features, and it's free for students.
- [Rhino 3D](https://www.rhino3d.com/), a professionnal NURBS modeling tool mostly used for product design and architecture.
- [Blender](https://www.blender.org/), a powerful but complex 3D creation suite, widely used by animators and game designers. Blender is completely free and open-source.
