    # DC Mappings to Schema.org See also https://dcmi.github.io/schema.org/mappings.html ## Goals This list represents a mapping _from_ DC terms metadata _to_ a reasonable schema.org equivalent. The use case is that metadata creators may have some DC terms in their data that they wish to export as schema.org. This list gives them a starting point for that transformation. In some cases the most obvious choice may not be what is appropriate for the metadata being mapped. We could attempt to provide alternative schema.org properties for most DC terms, but it would be hard to be complete, and that would require more maintenance than keeping a small list of individual close matches. There are, however, cases below where there is no single close match and those making use of the mapping will have to make a selection based on their knowledge of the metadata they are mapping. --- ## DC-15 ### __[dcterms:contributor](https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#http://purl.org/dc/terms/contributor)__: *An entity responsible for making contributions to the resource.* **Closest match: Schema.org: ["contributor"](https://schema.org/contributor)** : *A secondary contributor to the CreativeWork or Event.* :red_circle: Needs discussion --- ### __[dcterms:coverage](https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#http://purl.org/dc/terms/coverage)__: *The spatial or temporal topic of the resource, spatial applicability of the resource, or jurisdiction under which the resource is relevant.* **Partial match:** **Schema.org: ["location"](https://schema.org/location)** : *The location of for example where the event is happening, an organization is located, or where an action takes place.* - Note that this covers time and place in DC, but there is no general time coverage in schema (?) - From old mappings: Schema.org: ["contentLocation"](https://schema.org/contentLocation):*The location depicted or described in the content. In the case of a Dataset it will typically indicate the relevant time period in a precise notation (e.g. for a 2011 census dataset, the year 2011 would be written "2011/2012"). Other forms of content e.g. ScholarlyArticle, Book, TVSeries or TVEpisode may indicate their temporalCoverage in broader terms - textually or via well-known URL. Written works such as books may sometimes have precise temporal coverage too, e.g. a work set in 1939 - 1945 can be indicated in ISO 8601 interval format format via "1939/1945".* --- ## Description subproperties ### __[dcterms:abstract](https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#http://purl.org/dc/terms/abstract)__: *A summary of the resource.* **Use** **Schema.org: ["abstract"](https://schema.org/abstract)**: *An abstract is a short description that summarizes a CreativeWork.* --- ### __[dcterms:tableOfContents](https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#http://purl.org/dc/terms/tableOfContents)__: *A list of subunits of the resource.* **Use** **Schema.org: ["description"](https://schema.org/description)** : *A description of the item.* --- --- ## Format subproperties ### __[dcterms:extent](https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#http://purl.org/dc/terms/extent)__: *The size or duration of the resource.* - NT Schema.org: ["contentsize"](https://schema.org/contentSize) : *File size in (mega/kilo) bytes.* - NT Schema.org: ["materialextent"](https://schema.org/materialExtent) : *The quantity of the materials being described or an expression of the physical space they occupy.* - NT Schema.org ["duration"] *NO link bc not a property --- ### __[dcterms:medium](https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#http://purl.org/dc/terms/medium)__: *The material or physical carrier of the resource.* - EQ [None] - NT Schema.org: ["courseMode"](https://schema.org/courseMode) : *The medium or means of delivery of the course instance or the mode of study, either as a text label (e.g. "online", "onsite" or "blended"; "synchronous" or "asynchronous"; "full-time" or "part-time") or as a URL reference to a term from a controlled vocabulary (e.g. https://ceds.ed.gov/element/001311#Asynchronous ).* --- ## Identifier subproperty ### __[dcterms:bibliographicCitation](https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#http://purl.org/dc/terms/bibliographicCitation)__: *A bibliographic reference for the resource.* :black_nib: Note --- --- ## Rights subproperties ### __[dcterms:rights](https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#http://purl.org/dc/terms/rights)__: *Information about rights held in and over the resource.* - EQ [None] - NT Schema.org: ["accountablePerson"](https://schema.org/accountablePerson) : *Specifies the Person that is legally accountable for the CreativeWork.* - NT Schema.org: ["copyrightHolder"](https://schema.org/copyrightHolder) : *The party holding the legal copyright to the CreativeWork.* - NT Schema.org: ["license"](https://schema.org/license) : *A license document that applies to this content, typically indicated by URL.* --- ### __[dcterms:accessRights](https://www.dublincore.org/specifications/dublin-core/dcmi-terms/#http://purl.org/dc/terms/accessRights)__: *Information about who access the resource or an indication of its security status.* - EQ Schema.org: ["hasDigitalDocumentPermission"](https://schema.org/hasDigitalDocumentPermission) : *A permission related to the access to this document (e.g. permission to read or write an electronic document).
