Week11 - Molding and Casting

Creating the mold

  1. Choose you wax block and design it in the CAM
    Travel height is 200mm
    • take into account wax height and tool length
  2. Design your 3d part and place it on the wax mold
  3. Check the tool you are gonna use
    1/8 in = 3,175mm
    3/32 in = 2.38mm -> 15.5mm CL
    1/16 in = 1.5875mm
    1/32 in = 0.79mm
    1/64 in = 0.39mm
    each tool is present as 1f ,2f or flat and bold nose (round)
    Using clipping plane we can cut a 3d part
    The software will check if the tool can reach everything
    The round endmill might not reach the tiny details
  4. Export as STL
  5. Go to modela
  6. File -> Select Machine -> Choose roland SRM20
  7. choose rml format
  8. Open file
  9. Check the coordinate
    origine should be on the top and Z upwards
    origine shoud be in the corner
    Click on the button for origine (top right - compas button)
    dimension ok
    what do we want to mill
    click on origine tab and choose the low/down cornen
  10. Check the correct material to be milled > modelling wax (or option add/remove material)

Finish margin is the distance to the material on last layer of rough cut

When choosing the cutting direction, it is important to choose the correct one to knwo if you are doing climb or conventional
For machinnable wax, climb or conventinal is fine

To launch computation click the button with the "tool path" on the ower part of the tree

Shop to buy liquid plastic is Form X :
ask for smooth cast 300 series
