Week Three EPF6
# Finally, I chose the project..

Since the [last update](https://hackmd.io/@0xEllie/Syx7xStVle) I had some thoughts on what project I'm going to work on. Based on considerations I discussed in the last update, I had three options. One is implementing [EIP-7639](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-7639), and the other one is to implement [discv5](https://github.com/ethereum/devp2p/blob/master/discv5/discv5.md). They both are really interesting to me; however, I went with the third option, which is [EIP-6916](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-6916#specification) Implementation on Besu. Wrote [the proposal](https://hackmd.io/@0xEllie/SkxwSfKHgl) for the project. I also spent time reading the specification of the EIP carefully. In the following I will expand on what this EIP is about and implementation considerations.

The [EIP-6916](https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-6916#specification), which is also called the Ephemery testnet, provides Ethereum clients with a testnet network that periodically rolls back to genesis. The periodically restarting aspect of the network makes it ephemeral. Discards the old genesis and starts from a new one, which needs to be built based on given parameters and correspond in EL and CL clients. This way, the client can provide an alternative environment for short-term testing of applications, validators, and also breaking changes in client implementations. It avoids issues of long-running testnets, which suffer from state bloat, lack of testnet funds, or consensus issues. Periodically resetting the network back to genesis cleans the validator set and returns funds back to faucets while keeping the network reasonably small for easy bootstrapping.

In conclusion, as I'm a first contributor, I believe project is a good fit for me. Through it I will learn how to contribute to Ethereum and will be exposed to the Besu code base and its architecture. I'm prepared to get started on the project for the upcoming week (fourth week). I will begin by reading into the code base of Besu and then will be reviewing the work that has been done on the EIP implementation. I hope this project leads me to achieving the goals I've pointed out below.

* Gain an understanding of an EIP just by reading from its document.
* Being able to translate an EIP into a client's implementation.
* Acquiring the intuition to determine the viability of a feature development on Besu.
* Learning details of the client and its architecture for not just implementing this EIP but also later development.
* Being able to implement an EIP dependently on Java-based Ethereum clients.
* Getting better at writing documents.
