### What on earth is Aavegotchi? ###

Aavegotchi is an open-source, community owned NFT gaming protocol, enabling true asset ownership for gamers. Aavegotchi NFTs are on-chain collectible ghosts staked with Aave’s interest-generating aTokens.

### How do I get an Aavegotchi? ###

There are two ways to purchase an Aavegotchi. The first is to purchase a Portal during a new Haunt and then summon an Aavegotchi. The second is to head over to the [Aavegotchi Baazaar](https://app.aavegotchi.com/baazaar/aavegotchis?sort=latest), our secondary NFT marketplace, and either purchase a Portal or a summoned Aavegotchi.

There may be new haunts in the future but they must be approved by the AavegotchiDAO. To stay up to date with the latest information on upcoming Haunts, join our community.

If you decide to purchase your first Aavegotchi through the Baazaar, you will need to decide if you want to purchase a Portal, and then summon your own Aavegotchi, or simply purchase an Aavegotchi that has already been summoned.

Purchasing an Aavegotchi that has already been summoned is easy. You simply exchange GHST for the Aavegotchi and begin taking care of it! If you choose to purchase a Portal, you will begin by exchanging GHST tokens for a Portal. Then go to aavegotchi.com/portals and select your Portal. If you purchased a closed Portal, you will need to open it. After it is opened, Chainlink VRF is engaged, ensuring the traits of each Aavegotchi within the Portal are verifiably random.


Once the Portal is opened you will have 10 Aavegotchis to choose from. Click the arrows to scroll through and review the traits on each one. Choose your Aavegotchi carefully and be sure to consider all factors such as rarity and aesthetics. You can only summon one Aavegotchi, the other nine will be burnt forever.

After you select which Aavegotchi you wish to summon, you will need to provide it with Spirit Force (staked collateral) to bring it to life. To do this, click the “get (type of spirit force)” button underneath the area that says “Amount to Stake.” From there, the Swapper Tool will appear and you will be able to swap GHST tokens for your required [Spirit Force](https://wiki.aavegotchi.com/en/spirit-force). Input the correct amount, click “Swap,” and then confirm the transaction and gas fees via your wallet. Once the transaction is confirmed you will click “Approve Transfer” and then “Claim With X Amount of specific Spirit Force”

After this transaction is confirmed you will see your new Aavegotchi in the “My Aavegotchis” tab. From here you will be able to name your Aavegotchi whatever you want and pet it for the first time!

### Can Aavegotchis be traded/sold/bought? ###

Yes, you can buy and sell Aavegotchis on our secondary NFT marketplace called the [Aavegotchi Baazaar](https://app.aavegotchi.com/baazaar/). We also have an [Aavegotchi to Ethereum bridge](https://aavegotchi.medium.com/aavegotchis-are-bridging-to-ethereum-with-3x-rewards-for-trading-344432eded9f) allowing Aavegotchis to be bought and sold on L1 through marketplaces like [Rarible](https://rarible.com/collection/0x1906fd9c4ac440561f7197da0a4bd2e88df5fa70).

### Is Aavegotchi an official Aave project? How much is Aave involved? ###

Aavegotchi is a recipient of an Aave Ecosystem Grant, but we are not an official Aave project. However, Aave has been extremely helpful and we’re in close contact with the team.

### Is there something like a DAO for players? ###

Definitely! From its onset, Aavegotchi actually has been governed by the AavegotchiDAO, via our GHST token, and later via the actual Aavegotchi NFT itself.

I'm proud to say that we are one of the only NFT projects with "supply by consensus," where the DAO decides how many Aavegotchi NFTs should exist.

### Is Aavegotchi on Ethereum? ###

Aavegotchi is actually deployed on Polygon, the leading side chain to Ethereum.

### Can you start for free? ###

### Is there a mobile app on IOS or Android? ###

An app is on our roadmap but we've designed this game to be ultra accessible from the start. Being an in-browser experience means increased viral potential with easy sharing of links.

### How can I earn money by playing? ###

Aavegotchi features a number of play-to-earn opportunities.The original play-to-earn mechanic of the protocol is known as [Rarity Farming](https://wiki.aavegotchi.com/en/rarity-farming), where Aavegotchi’s compete to earn rewards across three categories: Rarity, Kinship, and Experience.

With the recent Alpha launch of the Gotchiverse, a whole new world of playing and earning has been introduced. In the Gotchiverse players will earn four new fair-launch ERC-20 tokens known as [Gotchus Alchemica](https://wiki.aavegotchi.com/en/gotchiverse#gotchus-alchemica). These tokens act as the raw elements of the Gotchiverse and will be used to craft installation NFTs that can be placed on Gotchiverse REALM land parcels. Of course, they are fully tradable and can be exchanged on Quickswap for now. Soon the Gotchiverse will have its own native DEX initially supporting pairs of each type of Alchemica and Aavegotchi’s GHST Token.

### What is the Gotchiverse, when will it go live, and when will land sales be? ###

The Gotchiverse is Aavegotchi’s metaverse. Within the Gotchiverse players will
explore, build, battle, earn, and socialize using their Aavegotchi.

### Is there any gameplay footage from the Gotchiverse? ###

### What are Lickquidators? ###

Players that possess Lickquidator Credits can opt to play as Lickquidators. Lickquidator Credits can be earned by completing tasks, referring friends, participating in airdrops, or other ways. They can also be purchased with GHST.

The main goal of a Lickquidator is to collect loose Alchemica that has been spilled around the Gotchiverse, but they can also engage in combat with Aavegotchis and offensive Installations
to earn Alchemica.

Lickquidators are amazing on a few levels. First, they turn the obsession with NFT scarcity on its head. Like Aavegotchis, Lickquidators are ERC721 avatars BUT they are uncapped and they are also one time use.

So let’s say you have 5 Lickquidators in your wallet. Each one represents a single entry into The Gotchiverse. You do an onchain transaction that burns the NFT and places you in the game, ready to play for keeps!

Once in the game, your mission is akin to a giant easter egg hunt or playground game of tag. You want to pick up as much surface level Alchemica (erc20s) as you can and find a save point to upload the Alchemica to your wallet. All before an Aavegotchi wrecks you!

### Can I name my Aavegotchi? ###

Yes! When you claim your Aavegotchi from the portal, you will have an opportunity to name your Aavegotchi. Choose wisely though, because Aavegotchi names are unique so a name can only be used by a single user.

### Are Aavegotchis on-chain? ###

Absolutely. All metadata including name, traits, wearables, etc. are all 100% on-chain.

### Will Aavegotchis battle? ###

Yes, Aavegotchi’s will be able to engage in combat in the Aarena within the Gotchiverse. Within the Aarena, Aavegotchis with high enough Spirit Force (Aave-powered interest-bearing aTokens) can battle against each other in epic Battle Royales, competing for the Spirit Force of their opponents.

### Can they die? ###

Yes they can 🥺 If you choose to release all of your collateral from its Aavegotchi vessel, the Aavegotchi will be forced to depart the realm of Ether and return to its home, the Nether realm. (AKA, the Aavegotchi NFT will be burned forever). Aavegotchis can also be sacrificed in order to transfer their Experience to another Aavegotchi.

### Can they talk to each other? ###
Aavegotchis are able to communicate with each other via their smart contracts. They will also be able to socialize within the Gotchiverse REALM. In the Gotchiverse, text chat will be enabled for all Gotchis in proximity to each other by default. REALM Parcel owners can also construct special Installations on their parcels to enable voice chat for Gotchis within a Parcel, and upgrade the Installation to support global voice chat.

### Why does Aavegotchi have a crystal on its forehead? ###

The Aavegotchi logo features an Ethereum logo as its third eye. Real Aavegotchis will display the logo of their underlying collateral. So if your Aavegotchi is staked with interest-generating DAI, there would be a DAI symbol in place of the crystal.

### Are they based? ###

Aavegotchis are 100% based, Aavepilled, and LENDpilled.

### How did you come up with the idea? ###

We have been working with NFTs since the early days. We built [Bullionix.io,](https://bullionix.io/) which featured the first ERC721 NFTs that could hold ERC20 token balances inside of them (gold stable coins specifically). From this experience, and many more, we came to the conclusion that, done well, playable NFTs had huge potential to offer a new type of on-chain experience.

### I assume that Aavegotchi is a portmanteau of Aave and Gotchi? ###

Yes. AAVE, due to our integration where each Aavegotchi has Aave aTokens deposited inside of them (their "spirit force") and GOTCHI, as a reference to the intrinsic playability of our NFTs. A digital pet for the on-chain generation.

### Do you guys have any plans to make joining more user-friendly? ###

We are expecting that bridging will continue to get simpler as better tech comes online, and the bridging process will be much more painless.

From our side though, we will continue to work on more onboarding mechanics like fiat ramps, credit card purchases, etc.

### Can you please explain rarity farming li5 (like I’m 5 years old)? ###

When Aavegotchi has a new NFT drop/primary sale of Aavegotchis or wearables, 40% of the revenue goes into a rewards pool. Then a few times a year, we'll have an 8 week long Rarity Farming season that redistributes the funds, in that rewards pool, directly to Aavegotchis in accordance to where they are ranked on various leaderboards.

The big three leaderboards are Rarity Score, Kinship, and XP.

Basically, if you dress your gotchi, pet your gotchi, and vote in the DAO, you'll do well on all three leaderboards and farm some GHST (and maybe some trophy or badge NFTs too!).

### Can I become a millionaire by playing this game? ###

Probably not overnight, but many players have flipped their way to significant gains by buying low and selling high. Another great way to earn is by participating in our auctions and getting outbid.

Every time you get outbid, you actually earn GHST, proportionate to how much you bid. So the higher you bid, the more you earn if you get outbid!

## Questions about GHST Token ##

### What is GHST token? ###

[GHST token](https://wiki.aavegotchi.com/en/ghst) is the ecosystem token of Aavegotchi. You’ll need to spend GHST to buy Portals and wearables, and stake GHST to claim REALM, the parcel token of the Aavegotchi Realm.

GHST is also the governance token of Aavegotchi, and thus entitles its holder to vote in the AavegotchiDAO.

GHST can be earned by voting in AavegotchiDAO, rarity farming, and playing mini-games.

### How do I get it? ###

There are a few different ways to buy GHST tokens:
* Buying it straight from the [curve](https://wiki.aavegotchi.com/curve) on Ethereum Mainnet (though this requires KYC, which unfortunately precludes citizens of the United States and China)
* Buying it from Decentralized Exchanges on Ethereum Mainnet such as [Uniswap](https://app.uniswap.org/#/swap?inputCurrency=ETH&outputCurrency=0x3f382dbd960e3a9bbceae22651e88158d2791550) and [Matcha](https://matcha.xyz/markets/GHST)
* Buying it from Decentralized Exchanges on Polygon such as [QuickSwap](https://quickswap.exchange/#/swap?outputCurrency=0x385eeac5cb85a38a9a07a70c73e0a3271cfb54a7)

### What's the maximum supply of GHST? ###

There is no maximum supply. The supply of GHST increases and decreases over its lifetime. But don’t worry, this doesn’t mean there is rampant inflation. GHST token is b a s e d on sound mathematical formulas that increase price as supply goes up.

### When does the bonding curve end? ###

The bonding curve is continuous, never-ending as long as Ethereum exists. This continuous distribution allows the supply of GHST token to wax or wane depending on its utility and demand by the community. Higher utility in the Aavegotchi ecosystem will lead to greater demand, which will increase the price of GHST over time.

### Why do I need KYC to buy from the bonding curve? ###

Because the Aavegotchi team is not anonymous, it is our responsibility to ensure that the token distribution of GHST is in compliance with securities regulations in various countries. Thus, we must perform KYC on our buyers/sellers and restrict access only to those countries where GHST is not considered a security. You can perform KYC at aavegotchi.com/kyc (Mainland Chinese and US citizens unfortunately cannot be accepted, due to securities regulations).

### Will I still be able to buy Aavegotchi if I can't do KYC? ###

Of course! Our KYC process is only limited to the token bonding curve, not Aavegotchis in general. You will be able to purchase and stake your Aavegotchi even if you were not able to fulfill KYC requirements on the token bonding curve.

GHST has also been community-listed in several other exchanges and DEXes. The official token contract address of GHST is:

### What's the difference between buying from the curve and buying on external sources? ###

The biggest difference is that buying from the curve supports the Aavegotchi DAICO initiative. Every month, a small portion of the reserves are allocated to the Aavegotchi team to fund development, marketing, and DAO proposals. If no one buys from the curve, there will be no funds in the reserves to use for these purposes.
