Roadmap Meeting 20-10

During this Roadmap Meeting, we (Spencer, Sam, Ven, Dekan, Andy, Adrienne, Travis, JP, Scott, Amos) discussed, voted and aligned on our:

  • Mission
  • Strategic Objectives
  • General notion of Success
  • Initiatives to achieve success

While this was initially meant to be roadmap planning for magesmiths, the discussion led to us extending this scope towards the entire DAOhaus ecosystem.

0. Mission

Why are we here?

Help facilitate the transition from trad-orgs to DAOs to empower individuals to exist within governance models they choose.

  • Is there a more meme-y fun way to say it?
  • Do we stay crypto-native or go legal?

1. Strategic Objectives

How are we going to achieve our mission?

Generally the team was aligned on the 4 strategic objectives but added one more to the 4 previously discussed.

  1. Be the best platform for communities to achieve their shared goals and live their shared values
  2. Foster an ecosystem of composable tools for DAOs to boost their coordination software
  3. Grow an economy of DAO-based value generation
  4. Drive innovation in DeGov by experimenting with new formulations, constructs, and initiatives
  5. NEW Spreading the gospel of DAOs

2. Success

What does success look like for each of these objectives?

1. Be the best platform for communities to achieve their shared goals and live their shared values

  • +6: Make a fluid, simple and rewarding pathway for anyone to start a DAO for their own goals, regardless of crypto-savviness
  • +2: Happy users, happy communities
  • +1: An interface that supports transparency, easy navigation, and understanding of the DAOs objectives

2. Foster an ecosystem of composable tools for DAOs to boost their coordination software

  • +5: Lots of third party developers earning income from publishing new boosts for DAOs to use
  • +1: Lowest possible coordination cost to take a smart contract or mechanism and make available to ALL daos (balance velocity with curation)

3. Grow an economy of DAO-based value generation

  • +5: DAOs can get everything they need for themselves from other DAOs (ie not from traditional companies)
  • +1: When DAO’s are formed they are not an atom, but have access and can fit into an ecosystem of community and knowledge

4. Drive innovation in DeGov by experimenting with new formulations, constructs, and initiatives

  • +4: Experiments are fully realized, outcomes analyzed & are integrated into products created on successful experiments
  • +2: Share learnings with the greater crypto community
  • +1: Daohaus ecosystem becomes the place where people look for crazy new shit

5. NEW Spreading the gospel of DAOs

  • +4: DAOs are obvious and no longer special; they are part of everything
  • +2: DAO Jesus

3 . Initiatives

In this section, similar ideas were grouped together & those that had strong preference in voting are bolded.

1. Be the best platform for communities to achieve their shared goals and live their shared values

  • +9: Platform maintenance & development to provide a delightful, reliable & simple user experience, while allowing product to evolve:
    • Continual UX improvements
    • Code maintenance (no bugs, easy dev exp, etc.)
  • +8: Cultural, social and engagement features
  • +1: UX research to gather more info on community needs and why people use other platforms

2. Foster an ecosystem of composable tools for DAOs to boost their coordination software

  • +10: Easier & permissionless onboarding & tools for Boost builders
    • Dev Suite
    • Dev documentation
    • Infrastructure for Boost plugins
    • Community building (calls, developer advocate, etc.)
  • +3: Grants for Boost builders
  • +3: Further decentralisation of DAOhaus app
  • +3: Build developer value capture paths (e.g. payments)
  • +1: Don’t build the tools just the interfaces to connect tools

Discussion:

  • How do we keep UX high-quality & consistent, while enabling anyone & everyone to build Boosts for DAOhaus?
  • What if we took it to the extreme of being unopinionated and allow users to choose what everything they want (even summoning & voting flows)?
  • There are some things we can learn from Apple (e.g. curation, platform standards, user experience), but there are some things we can innovate (e.g. decentralised curation via $HAUS?)

3. Grow an economy of DAO-based value generation

  • +7: Build Service DAOs Marketplace & Tools
  • +4: Productise CCO/LP DAO
  • +2: Grants / Starter Kits to increase formation of Service DAOs (BD / Advocacy, Grants, "DAO SOP", Onboarding)
  • +1: Develop mechanism for value capture/share between all participants (devs/users/daos)
  • +1: Add transparency in the connection between DAOs
  • +1: IRL meetings

4. Drive innovation in DeGov by experimenting with new formulations, constructs, and initiatives

  • +6: Grants for people who want to experiment with new ideas
  • +6: Wargames! and other side quests/skunkwork style initiatives
  • +3: Pathway for successful experiments to mature into new boosts or DAOhaus features
  • +3: Fail at things and write it down

5. NEW Spreading the gospel of DAOs

  • +6: Funding of education initiatives (e.g. articles, case studies, internationalisation) to help people to get started
  • +5: Full on media storm of DAO propaganda in all formats (books, comics, documentaries, blockbuster films)
  • +3: Make people feel guilty for doing things the old way and making compromises in decentralization
  • +1: Contribute to all efforts within our ecosystem/community and beyond to ensure narrative grows along our mission.

Next Steps

At this point, we've managed to define:

  • 5 strategic focuses
  • What success generally looks like
  • 2 - 4 initiatives under each strategic focus

Looking at the initiatives across focuses, there are some common categories:

  • Launch a new initiative in the community to test something
  • Build a product/feature to solve something
  • Create onboarding, grants, programmes for experiments / products / people to have larger roles in the ecosystem
  • Create content to spread the word with the wider web3 ecosystem

Till the next Roadmap Meeting on Monday, please take some time to read through the notes & think about the following points:

  • Are there any other initiatives we should add to the list?
  • Are there any initiatives on the list we should remove & deprioritise?

In the next meeting,

  1. We can start with discussing the above 2 questions to finalise the list of initiatives we think are important.
  2. With the final list, we can define the initiatives that fall under each working group, so it is clear how we are working together respectively to achieve "success".

Once everyone is clear with the initiatives, we can then propose a list of success metrics 2 weeks later, acting as a guide towards achieving our common view of success in the long run.
