A member of a structure or union may have any object type other than a variably modified type.^105)^ ==In addition, a member may be declared to consist of a specified number of bits (including a sign bit, if any). Such a member is called a **bit-field**;^106)^== its width is preceded by a colon. 也就是說我們可以在任何 structure 或是 union 裡面宣告 bit-field 變數,變數名字後面接 colon 和 width 。 不過細看下面的註解會發現: > 106)The unary `&` (address-of) operator **cannot** be applied to a bit-field object; thus, there are no pointers to or arrays of bit-field objects. C 語言禁止我們對 bit-field 使用 `&` (address-of)。 其實不只有 `&` (address-of) 不能使用, §6.5.3.4 有寫到連 `sizeof` 也不可以對 bit-field member 使用: > 1. The `sizeof` operator **shall not** be applied to an expression that has function type or an incomplete type, to the parenthesized name of such a type, ==or to an expression that designates a bit-field member.== 為了探究其原因,我們發現規格書 §6.2.6.1 這樣寫著: > 2. ==Except for bit-fields, objects are composed of contiguous sequences of one or more bytes,== the number, order, and encoding of which are either explicitly specified or implementation-defined. 也就是除了 bit-field 以外的 object 都具有連續的記憶體空間,而且是以 byte 為單位。 規格書 §6.7.2.1 下面尚有這段描述: > 10. An implementation may allocate any addressable storage unit large enough to hold a bit-field. If enough space remains, a bit-field that immediately follows another bit-field in a structure shall be packed into adjacent bits of the same unit. ==If insufficient space remains, whether a bit-field that does not fit is put into the next unit or overlaps adjacent units is implementation-defined.== The order of allocation of bit-fields within a unit (high-order to low-order or low-order to high-order) is implementation-defined. The alignment of the addressable storage unit is unspecified. 所以 bit-field 是否會連續,要考慮到有關 addressable storage unit 的議題。這個 storage unit 通常是 16 bits, 32 bits 或是 8 bits ,反正是 implementation-defined 。現在假設 storage unit 的大小是 16 bits ,並且有以下 strcture : ```c struct test2 { unsigned int x : 7; unsigned int y : 7; unsigned int z : 10; }; ``` 毫無疑問地, `x` 會被儲存到一個 storage unit 裡; `y` 也會被存到同一個 storage unit 裡,因為還有 9 bits 的空間可以放,而且 C 語言規範保證 `x` `y` 是緊鄰的。但當要儲存 `z` 的時候,這個 storage unit 的空間就不夠了。這時要把 `z` 的 2 個 bits 放在跟 `x` `y` 同一個 storage unit 裡,然後再把剩下的 8 bits 放在另一個 storage unit 裡呢,還是 `z` 的 10 個 bits 全都放在另一個 storage unit 呢,也是 implementation-defined 。 所以為什麼不能對 bit-field 使用 `&` (address-of) ,進而導致沒有 bit-field 的 pointer 呢?一般的變數大小單位都是以 byte 為單位,當我們想要 store/retrieve 一個 pointer 指向的內容時,必須要知道它確切的大小和確切的地址,而 bit-field 不以一般變數的儲存方式儲存,大概是這個原因吧。 --- ## 第三週測驗 `2` 考慮以下程式碼,在 little-endian 硬體上,會返回 `1`,反之,在 big-endian 硬體上會返回 `0`: ```C int main() { union { int a; char b; } c = { .a = K1 }; return c.b == K2; } ``` 補完上述程式碼。 ==作答區== K1 = ? * `(a)` 0 * `(b)` 1 * `(c)` -1 * `(d)` 254 K2 = ? * `(a)` 0 * `(b)` 1 * `(c)` 254 ### 想法 規格書 §6.7.2.1 > a structure is a type consisting of a sequence of members, whose storage is allocated in an ordered sequence, and ==a union is a type consisting of a sequence of members whose storage overlap.== > ==The size of a union is sufficient to contain the largest of its members.== The value of at most one of the members can be stored in a union object at any time. A pointer to a union object, suitably converted, points to each of its members. 因此這一題 union c 的大小是 `sizeof(int)`,且 c 的 member a 和 member b 是存在同一塊記憶體空間 規格書 §6.3.1.4 > The integer promotions preserve value including sign. ``` 迴圈的目的是在檢查傳入的字串 `value` 是否大於目前 `*r` 指向的節點裡的字串。如果大於, `*r` 就指向下一個節點;沒有大於的話就跳出迴圈。 因為 `*r` 的型態是指向 `record` 的指標,所以 F1 應該是 `*r` (這樣他指向的地方才有 `next` 這個 member )。又因為 `r` 的型態是指向 `record` 指標的指標,所以將 `(*r)->next` assign 給 `r` 之前要先取址。 所以,迴圈執行第一次的結果是(假設迴圈有執行): ```graphviz digraph block_ele { node [shape=record];
