Call for Volunteers

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” - Mother Teresa

In these times of trouble, it becomes imperative for us to come together to help those in need. As part of this initiative, Urban Folk Project (UFP) is working with Servelots and some friends to build a platform that aids the current relief work being carried out by several individuals and citizen groups across the city.

What we are trying to do?

We are trying to provide an area-wise activity map by locating and identifying various individuals and families, their needs and the available resources. This information will be updated on a common sheet on a daily basis. Such a “resource versus need" dynamic map can also serve the long-term needs of the post-lockdown phase.

Do you have a few hours a day to lend a hand?

Here is how you can help.
If you decide to volunteer to help us out, here are a few tasks you can take up:

  1. Data Management Backend Support
    a. Data collation from friends, orgs and various departments
    b. Data entry of relief and other resources into the relevant sub-sheet
    c. Managing spreadsheet updates and followups
    d. Using bots and scripts to parse data from different formats to automate data ingest
    e. Updating / verifying GPS coordinates (forward / reverse search) and related polygons

  2. Content Writing and Media Archiving
    a. Content writing for many of the involved groups
    b. Managing contributed Photo and Audio archives and linking it to the group posts
    c. Coordination / follow up re. issues

  3. Technical Development
    a. Design inputs and working with app/site developers
    b. Technical support for website/app features
    c. Scrum master to manage requirements and delivery

  4. Translation
    a. Translation of new information found to Kannada

  5. Promotion and awareness
    a. Promote and share across networks and citizens
    b. Online/Offline Events Management
