:::info - **Meeting link:** [Zoom](https://turing-uk.zoom.us/j/93282743370?pwd=dlN5VDBNMFROVkJ6c1BRSStQMDNTZz09&from=addon) - **Date:** 7 August 2023 3:00 - 4:00 PM - **Agenda** 1. **Retrospective** on previous training activities, motivations & resourcing `15 mins` 2. **Alignment with the Turing Strategy** - where do we want to focus on devleping learning materials / live events? `20 mins` 3. What **learner communities** do we want to focus on in the next 12 months (**Sept 23-Sept 24**) `20 mins` 3.1 Anna & Harriet - to represent students (Enrichment and CDTs) 3.2 Anna - to represent interns 3.3 Jules - to represent DSG participants 3.4 Harriet - to represent ECRs incl TRFs 3.5 Mishka - to represent educators & the OLP users 3.6 Vera & Sarah - to represent BridgeAI & DCE target audiences 5. **AOB** `5 mins` - **Participants:** - Mishka (MN) - Sarah (SN) - Vera (VM) - Harriet (HM) - Jules (JM) - Anna (AB) - **Contact:** Mishka <mnemes@turing.ac.uk> - **Chair:** Mishka - **References:** - [Miro brainstorming](https://miro.com/app/board/uXjVMwbqaew=/) ::: ## Agenda & Notes ### :dart: 1. Retrospective --- **General content & topics** - RSE & RDS - summer school type of events (1-2 week long) - Turing Way - Turing Commons - Responsible AI - DSG training (?) - Internal student specific training (mainly Enrichment) ### :books: 2. Strategic objectives & Skills activity alignment --- **Some themes to be discussed** VM: how does this tie into the strategy and our OKRs? - Innovation - alignment with Obj 5 - involve RAMs w/ driving product development - Responsible AI - Responsible business development (Accenture) - Career focused: how to become an RSE? - [REG / Skills discussion](https://hackmd.io/sK058N1FQBu9QuV5Z-yRhA) - [REG learner personas](https://hackmd.io/@snietopski/HkcuXU0j3) - Train the trainer focused: training facilitators in RRI - Business focused: how to become data / AI ready - Business leaders - alignment with Obj 7 - Grand challenge areas - need a discussion early to ensure we're not doing siloed activities - development of use cases - project-based learning - [add other topics] #### Objective 6: Lead on the upskilling of individuals who are data science and AI professionals or domain experts who are working on data science and AI through the development, coordination and collaboration of learning interventions. Key results: - Prioritise which target sectors, aligned with **grand challenges**, the Turing Skills Programme will focus on, and who the likely collaborators would be within each sector. - Needs analysis and persona development, together with the REG team, to better target future development of training resources. One of the target groups will be **domain experts with high analytical skills**. - Explore how the existing Turing Skills Programme, and specifically the **data science and AI Educators programme**, could benefit from the case studies that would be developed as a source of open and accessible materials that can be integrated into their data science and AI module. - Explore **international opportunities** for establishing collaborations for developing training programmes ### :mag: 3. Looking forward in the next 12 months --- **Our current communities** i. students (Enrichment) ii. interns (external and internal) - entrepreneurship - career building, transition from academia to industry (blog posts, panels with previous interns) iii. DSG participants - precursor week - core: report writing, ethics and TREx, facilitation, Data Safe Haven / IT iv. ECRs incl TRFs v. educators - focus on developing the frameworks rather than delivering eh training vi. OLP users vii. BridgeAI & DCE target audiences viii. CDTs / national PhDs? (HM suggested) AOB --- Biggers Q: - What are some of the ways we could enable the transfer of knowledge between the 3 sectors? - Set up a mechanism for the community to build use cases? - What kind of training or support can we offer ECRs to write blog posts or more impactful research outputs? - Set up book dashes / hackathons for co-design of use cases? eg with TFs, CDTs and RSS? Development of case studies - identify audience - plan structure / way of developing them - test & run :closed_book: Actions -- - [ ] understand the make-up of the communities under each GC - [ ] map / consider incentives for each audience - [ ] focus on educators since this an audience heavily mentioned in the strategy + low hanging fruit since work is in motion - consider follow-up work for skills activities - leadership ## Misc Notes & references <!-- Other important details discussed during the meeting can be entered here. --> Harriet pre-meeting notes. Will require explainer to make more sense TRF's: - Policy - Media training (blogs, comms inc.) - Grants - EDI (Band 4 requirement noted) - Leading research group Enrichment: - Effective TESC meetings/convos - Navigating the ecosystem and self-positioning - Professional communication CDTs: - EDI - Communication - Confidence and presenting - Entrepreneurship - Innovation - RRI - Responsible AI - Ethics - Industry networking - Writing skills - Public engagement - Blended, project based learning and incentivising cross-CDT collaboration - Sustainable AI and research sustainability - Regulation - Policy influence and development - Employability support - Promoting global cooperation - Senior academic exposure (i.e Fellows) - Pitching - Negotiation - Careers fair (controversial FYI)
