CentOS Stream 9 Promo

Note: If you want edit rights, please ask Rich.

Overview

We want to do more intentional promotion around CentOS Stream 9, beyond the "coming soon" messaging that we currently have on https://centos.org/download/

This includes, at minimum:

We also want to coordinate this with Alain's new visual identity/redesign work rollout. (See https://www.dev.centos.org/, https://lists.dev.centos.org/, https://people.dev.centos.org/, https://blog.dev.centos.org/)

All of this stuff has been announced on centos-devel, but that isn't "visible" to the press, or even to the bulk of our users. So we need to do something splashier to get more eyes on it.

What this is not

This is not a product announcement or release announcement. It's a project availability announcement, and encouragement to participate.

This is not a "it's ready" Neal Gompa says: "CentOS Stream is never done, but it is made for you to make it what you want it to be."

Deliverables

There are several outputs of this effort.

Blog post

A point in time blog post. Possibly 2 of them - one on blog.c.o and one on blog.redhat.com

Blog post draft is available at https://hackmd.io/@forbushd/BJC9Q9DSY

Web content

A web page (or mini-site?) at centos.org/stream9

Web content created here: https://hackmd.io/1K3sbGAyQjSZ1sg4VJBZbw

Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly updates?

We should also have an ongoing working doc that we publish on a schedule (TBD) which gives an update of what's happening in Stream 9. Who is going to write this? How often should we publish?

Video

  • A video-format version of the blog post (in the style of Rich's monthly updates on youtube)
  • A video demo/walkthrough of someone installing c9s and highlighting some major features

The banner information can be changed in case you need to, to better fit the announcement itself.

In case of using new logo proposal:

Coordination

This work should happen on the centos-promo mailing list. If you're not subscribed, please do so.

Press outreach

Collect press contacts that we can reach out to to possibly cover this.
