Promoting Free Culture and Libre Graphics tools at the Department of Intergrated Design - Univeristy of Moratuwa

Introduction

A group of open culture advocates, designers, artists and software enginners in collaboration with DID of University of Moratuwa are bidding to host the Libre Graphics Meeting 2021 in Colombo Sri Lanka. The group intends to use the year leading upto the conference to promote free software and open culture philosphy in the community. The DID is interested in introducing open culture practises, open design and software freedom philosophies along with FOSS tools for design

Objectives

Promote and raise awareness of open culture, free and open source software and open design practise.

Workshops: all workshops are half-day workshops.

Media and Communication Design

WORKSHOP 3: Contributing to UI and UX in open source software

  • Understanding Creative Freedoms
  • How To participate in online proejcts and forums

OUTCOMES: Students signup and contribute to a live project during the workshop.

WORKSHOP 4: Introduction to generative design and coding graphics

  • Drawbot
  • Python for visulaisations

OUTCOMES: Students make thier own simple generative design example

WORKSHOP 5: Font making open open tools

OUTCOMES: Students learn how to make fonts with open source and free tools, they learn how to choose leagal fonts

WORKSHOP 6: Live projects session
