    # How to Block Emails on Yahoo? Email is one of the most essential tools for communication today, but it also comes with an unwanted side effect: **spam and unwanted messages**. Whether it’s promotional emails, phishing attempts, or persistent senders, too many unwanted emails can clutter your inbox and even pose security risks. If you use **Yahoo Mail**, you’ll be happy to know that Yahoo provides several tools to help you block emails, filter unwanted senders, and keep your inbox clean. This guide explains in detail how to block emails on Yahoo, step by step, and also covers tips for managing spam more effectively. --- ## 1. Why Block Emails on Yahoo? Blocking emails is useful when: * You are getting spam from the same sender repeatedly. * A company keeps sending you newsletters even after you unsubscribe. * You receive harassing or unwanted emails from specific people. * You want to reduce clutter and focus on important messages. Blocking is different from unsubscribing. While unsubscribing works for legitimate companies, blocking is necessary when senders ignore your preferences or are malicious. --- ## 2. Blocking Emails Using Yahoo Mail on Desktop If you primarily use Yahoo Mail on your computer, here’s how you can block unwanted senders: ### Step 1: Log in to Yahoo Mail Go to [https://mail.yahoo.com](https://mail.yahoo.com) and sign in with your username and password. ### Step 2: Select the Email from the Sender Open your inbox and click on the email sent by the person or company you want to block. ### Step 3: Access Email Options At the top of the email, click on the **three-dot menu (More)**. ### Step 4: Choose “Block Sender” Select **Block Sender** from the dropdown menu. ### Step 5: Confirm Block Yahoo will ask if you want to delete existing emails from this sender and block future ones. Confirm your choice. From now on, all messages from that sender will go directly to the **Trash folder**. --- ## 3. Blocking Emails Using Yahoo Mail on Mobile App If you use the Yahoo Mail app on your smartphone, the process is similar but slightly different: ### Step 1: Open the Yahoo Mail App Log in to your account on the Yahoo Mail app for Android or iOS. ### Step 2: Open the Unwanted Email Tap the email from the sender you want to block. ### Step 3: Access Options Tap the **three-dot menu** (usually in the top-right corner). ### Step 4: Select “Block Sender” Choose **Block Sender** and confirm. The sender will now be blocked, and their emails will no longer appear in your inbox. --- ## 4. Manually Adding Blocked Addresses Yahoo Mail also allows you to add email addresses manually to your blocked list: 1. Click on the **Settings icon** (gear) in the upper-right corner of Yahoo Mail. 2. Select **More Settings**. 3. In the left-hand menu, click on **Security and Privacy**. 4. Under the “Blocked Addresses” section, click **Add**. 5. Type the email address you want to block and click **Save**. This method is useful if you don’t want to wait for an email to arrive before blocking someone. --- ## 5. Using Filters to Block Emails If you’re receiving multiple unwanted messages with similar subjects or from a domain, you can set up filters: 1. Go to **Settings > More Settings > Filters**. 2. Click **Add New Filters**. 3. Enter rules, such as specific words in the subject line or a particular email domain (e.g., \*@spammer.com). 4. Choose what happens to those emails—send them directly to **Trash** or another folder. Filters are especially helpful for blocking entire groups of senders instead of one by one. --- ## 6. Managing Spam in Yahoo Mail Yahoo has a built-in **Spam filter** that automatically moves suspicious emails to the Spam folder. However, some spam may still slip through. Here’s how you can improve spam control: * **Mark Emails as Spam:** If an unwanted email appears in your inbox, select it and click **Spam** at the top. This teaches Yahoo’s filter to catch similar emails in the future. * **Unmark Real Emails:** Sometimes real messages end up in the Spam folder. If this happens, mark them as “Not Spam” so Yahoo learns from your correction. * **Regularly Check Spam Folder:** Important emails may occasionally land there by mistake, so review it periodically. --- ## 7. Limitations of Blocking on Yahoo While blocking emails is effective, it has some limitations: * **Spammers Change Addresses:** Many spam senders constantly use new email addresses, so you may need to block multiple ones. * **Blocking Limit:** Yahoo allows you to block up to **1,000 addresses**, which is plenty for most users but not unlimited. * **Domain Blocking:** Yahoo does not natively block entire domains unless you create a custom filter. --- ## 8. Best Practices for a Cleaner Inbox Blocking alone may not solve every issue. Here are some additional steps to reduce unwanted emails: 1. **Unsubscribe from Legitimate Newsletters** Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of genuine marketing emails instead of blocking them. 2. **Avoid Sharing Your Email Publicly** Posting your email address on websites or forums makes it easy for spammers to target you. 3. **Use a Secondary Email** Keep a separate email for sign-ups, online shopping, and newsletters. Use your main Yahoo account for personal or work-related communication. 4. **Enable Two-Step Verification** This won’t reduce spam but will protect your account if spammers attempt phishing attacks. 5. **Be Careful with Phishing Emails** Don’t click links or download attachments from unknown senders. Blocking is not only about clutter—it’s also about safety. --- ## 9. Conclusion So, how do you block emails on Yahoo? The process is simple and can be done directly from your inbox on both desktop and mobile apps. You can block individual senders, add blocked addresses manually, or use filters for more complex blocking. Combined with Yahoo’s spam filter, these tools help you maintain a clean and secure inbox. Blocking is most useful against persistent unwanted emails, while filters are better for broader spam management. Keep in mind that blocking isn’t perfect—spammers can always create new addresses—but by using Yahoo’s blocking, spam marking, and filters together, you can dramatically reduce the clutter. By staying proactive, updating your blocked list, and practicing safe email habits, you can make your Yahoo Mail experience much smoother and more secure. --- **Word Count: \~825** ✅ Would you like me to also make a **step-by-step illustrated guide with screenshots** (like a mini tutorial) so it’s easier to follo
