# "Who are the ones being educated?" Discussion
## [< Education Ring - EthMagicians Council of Paris 2019](https://hackmd.io/k166XmT8S5ysdHA_uXM02g)
Identify the target groups, who are the sudents in Education?
### Why educate?
Diversity, onboard new users
With that, we can start to answer who, what, how...
User story: nn Ethereum, I was very intimidated, confused
We need more diversity in the community
Good examples of education efforts:
- DGov Foundation
- ML youtube videos Siraj Raval
- EmberJS as a platform with good onboarding, education, documentation
**Intimidated by all of the tools**
Why educate is somewhat about who to educate
Listing out those who need to learn about the platform:
### 3 Core Groups
**Users**
We tend to talk about users abstractly, let's talk about them as people.
The tech is heavy. We need to make it more accessible.
**Developers**
Different kinds of developers: dapp devs, "Ethereum itself" (protocol devs), corporate devs
**Investors**
Narrative outside the community is wild and crazy. Overly positive declarations, overly negative declarations.
### Other important groups
Policy makers, lawyers, etc. want to learn about Ethereum
**"External experts"** - how to related Ethereum to their field
Thinkers, people interested in the social fabric, philosophers
**users of various categories of dapps**
legal administrators, accountants, financial operators, token traders
entrepreneurs who want to build or use the network to pay their contractors
### Vision of Ethereum
Big question in education is having a cohesive vision of Ethereum which can be easily communicated
If someone is new, this could bring them in
What is the vision of Ethereun, we each attempted to articulate that:
- "Ethereum enables interaction between people. It establishes an environment of trust. It enables interactions without needing trust."
- "Frictionless interaction to enable finance, voting, putting our daily lives on the internet."
- "Ethereum enables experiments."
- "Unstoppable code. It is what technology enables in society. Those who hold the power cannot stop us."
- "Platform to make decisions without a figurehead to decide."
- "Reliable medium for social coordination which cannot be interfered with."
### Focal Points
We still look to the Ethereum Foundation. Is its resources being used for education?
NOTE: From the EF website at https://ethereum.org/foundation...
> The Ethereum Foundation’s mission is to promote and support Ethereum platform and base layer research, development ***and education*** to bring decentralized protocols and tools to the world that empower developers to produce next generation decentralized applications (dapps), and together build a more globally accessible, more free and more trustworthy Internet.
How to inventivize education
Devcon is an educational event!
Can we use events better?
**"Ethereum Onboarding Conference"**
We can do this in coordination with universities
Should not be ablout shilling anything
It should be realistic
**People need to own this**
We need to make sure that people with the right intentions are onboarding people
Also, who are good advocates for the platform, convey its vision and values
"Devcon" is inward-facing
'On-boarding Con" is outward-facing
Such a conference would attract a lot of funding for sponsorships.
**How to drive newcomers to what benefits them**
