# NOMADIAN'S GUIDE TO QUALITY REMOTE WORKING
## IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
1. All requests are to be sent to Elodie and Afrah, who will keep track of them
2. All requests of equipment which costs more than 50€ needs the pre-approval of the General Management.
3. Afrah is to be informed by all requests (before buying)
4. This note is dedidacted to NL's employees only; for subcontractors - please refer to Afrah, Oana and Michel if there are things that need to be covered in accordance to your contract.
## OBJECTS YOU NEED
Every Nomadian worthy of their name needs a "saucisse" for good work quality on the Tezos project. The "saucisse" can be with meat, cheese, vegetables and even fruit for those of us who prefer it like this; it can be a state of mind, a feeling, an emotion.
But that is really not limited to remote working, it's just general and how things are.
However, for remote, here is a list:
* mouse (150€)
* keyboard (250€)
* microphone, headset (max 300€)
* le casque est indispensable pour éviter l'echo etc. mais pensez au micro ça soulage les oreilles des collaborateurs https://www.bluemic.com/en-us/products/yeti/ par exemple est très bien ! (C'est marrant, il y'a beaucoup de _defiance_ sur youtube quant à ce micro) (Je (@mathias) peux faire une demo un jour si besoin) (@pierrick: +1, associé à https://github.com/lawl/NoiseTorch pour les bruits de fond c'est très bien)
* https://aftershokzfr.com/products/aeropex
=> casque à conduction osseuse: dans un milieu calme, c'est très confortable, rien sur les oreilles
* https://www.jabra.fr/business/office-headsets/jabra-evolve/jabra-evolve-65 <- super aussi
* camera
* 4g key (if your internet connection is down)
* external screen (450€)
* Any advice here?
* computer (if yours is broken, or more than 3 years old)
* Modern laptops are great when you are a nomad but when you work from home, a workstation is way more efficient to develop with.
Is it possible to be equipped with a desktop computer in addition to the laptop? I would perfectly understand that NL would avoid these
extra costs though, just asking!
* office chair (400€ max)
* https://www.ikea.com/fr/fr/p/markus-chaise-de-bureau-glose-noir-40103100/ (Si disponible)
* USB key or hard disk for backups (NAS)
* des conseils ?
+ QNAP 251+ / memory upgrade / 2TB discs iron wolf ( also very good to run a tezos node or a gitlab runner at home )
+ DIY
Other devices might be considered, if necessary.
## RECOMMENDATIONS
* limit your request to **one item per category**
* eco-responsible behaviour: if you want to change an item because it no longer corresponds to your needs, but the object is in good shape, return it to the IT team
## OTHER TYPES OF ADVICE
* Install Ubuntu **LTS versions only**. These versions have always worked perfectly with hardware and are stable. Also, Canonical already provide 5 years of support for security and bug fixes.
* Lenovo X1 Carbon **7th gen** laptops have several hardware drivers issues w/ Linux distributions. Expect glitches each time you have a dist upgrade (specially/at least with Ubuntu).
## QUESTIONS
* What kind of external screen do you use, especially in constrained spaces?
* https://www.asus.com/fr/Displays-Desktops/Monitors/All-series/ZenScreen-Touch-MB16AMT/ la partie tactile est plutot décevante sous linux (les applications la gèrent mal) mais pour le reste c'est pas mal en complément du laptop
* (+1) sur le MB16AMT. Marche out of the box avec ubuntu (surprise!) meme en hdmi/usb c. le support touch est mieu sur mac.
* et le _stylus pen_?
* bof, enfin là aussi pas trouvé d'appli , linux avec laquelle c'etait très confortable. Je pense que sauf si utilisateur windows ou peut etre mac os, je conseille plutot la version non tactile.
* What kind of external screen do you use, especially in **un**constrained spaces?
