## Description

The Electron framework lets you write cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. It is based on Node.js and Chromium and is used by the Atom editor and many other apps.

## Statement of alignment with OpenJS Foundation charter and mission

Electron has a prominent role in the adoption of web technologies by desktop applications. Electron provides a path for JavaScript to be a sustainable platform for desktop applications. This enables adoption and development of JavaScript in an environment that has traditionally been served by proprietary or platform-specific technologies.

## Governance Structure

- Electron's governance structure is documented in full in the [electron/governance repo](https://github.com/electron/governance).
- Electron is managed by a series of working groups, overseen by an administrative working group.
- The working groups have full authority over their respective domains. The administrative working group oversees the working groups.
- Any person on a working group is a member of governance. Members are nominated by the current working group chair, and approved by the community and safety group.
- How are members of the leadership team nominated? [Chairs of working groups](https://github.com/electron/governance/tree/master/charter#leadership) have a four month term and are selected at random from the set of eligible candidates.
- How are individuals outside of leadership given commit access? Commit access to all public `electron/*` repositories is given to all governance participants with the exception of [certain repositories](https://github.com/electron/governance/blob/master/policy/permissions.md#repository-write-access). Commit access to those excepted repositories are then granted to members of the working group(s) deemed responsible for those repositories.
