Nice to meet you!

I want to get to know people active in the OpenRefine community and am always open for a (virtual) cup of coffee/tea. You can book an appointment with me via https://calendly.com/sfauconn (don't hesitate, just do it!)

In these meetings, I'm interested in the following questions.
This is very flexible. By all means, please (also) propose topics you would like to talk about.

  • Could you tell a bit about yourself?
  • What has brought you to the OpenRefine community?
  • What have you been doing / working on in the OpenRefine community so far?
  • What is your opinion about OpenRefine in its present form? (can be about any topic: governance, community, funding, the code base, the people involved, the users OpenRefine is (not) serving)
  • Are there aspects to OpenRefine that you would like to be more involved in? Or less?
  • If you are an active OpenRefine user and/or frequently interact with end users: can you tell me about your / this community's use cases and needs?
  • If you would have the power to change one thing about OpenRefine, what would it be? (can again be very broad)
  • Which other people should I talk with?
  • Do you otherwise recommend any resources, communities, I (and OpenRefine in general) should investigate (better)?
  • Anything you want to ask me?
  • Anything else you want to share?

Our conversations are confidential. I will take notes, but only for personal purposes. I would really appreciate an honest and frank conversation!

Thank you for your time! I really appreciate this.

About me

I am Sandra Fauconnier, Belgian citizen in the Netherlands. In February 2022 I started working part-time as OpenRefine's Project Director (see the job advertisement for an overview of what this role entails).

I'm trained as an art historian. Although I consider myself a power user, and I am very interested in digital technology, I am not a developer. I've worked on digital and video projects in the cultural sector for over 20 years now. In the mid 2000s I became an active Wikimedian (focus on Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons). With that hat on, I have worked on quite a few partnerships with the art, museum and libraries sectors. I've also been employed with the Wikimedia Foundation, on the project that integrated structured (linked) data into Wikimedia Commons, Wikipedia's media repository.

I started using OpenRefine around 2015, and use it on a nearly daily basis. I am very interested in learning how people in various sectors use OpenRefine, how we can make OpenRefine even better and more useful to more people, and how I can do my part in making its community grow and thrive.
