Pooja makes a short film

When young women from Mirzapur participated in Kishori Film Festival (http://bit.ly/kifi2021), they explored different themes through the powerful medium of audio visual practices. When they started filming everybody around them were taken by surprise. It was a new experience for everyone and at points they were uncomfortable. These uncomfortable moments are the moments for young women to shine and show their capabilities in their own community. They shared diverse stories right from carpet makers in Vindhyachal to people working in a brick kiln, to farmers tending their crops. For instance, despite of lockdown and hesitations from her grandfather Pooja was able to shoot life and daily activities of people working at the brick kiln. She made sure that even after the challenges she faced to complete the film and accommodate multiple perspectives in her altered storyline. After looking at their efforts, people started showing interest and they also wanted to be involved. Their films spark shared dialogue and mutual understanding amongst them. Film making also became a completely new medium for these young women to hone their creative and articulation skills which are baseline indicator of gig enablement.
