--- tags: w4p --- Aug w4p report - update === **On Tue, Jul 28, 2020 at 3:38 PM Mayank Nautiyal wrote**: Dear Preeti and Shalini Ji, Greetings from DA! We trust you are doing well and keeping safe. Thank you for arranging such a great interaction with Roopali and sharing your thoughts on virtual safe spaces. We look forward to continuing these dialogues with your teams and learning more about your tools.  During our last working session and workshop, the following plan was put forward by the teams. ## Team Janastu **1) Collecting data from villages and identifying 10-20 girls. Shortlist one village based on data.** We had virtual meetings with girls from several villages. A local organization MMU was very helpful in gathering village girls to have meetings and to conduct activities. Through these meetings we were able to collect data regarding locality, cultural challenges, diversity, education, technology and specially issues, hobbies and interests of girls we met. Based on the data we gathered during meetings from more than 12 villages, we shortlisted Dihaganjiri village as first village to start the activities, since girls from this village were very enthusiastic and were happy to participate and learn new things. We identified different hobbies in the girls which helped us to plan new activities. Out of 28 girls we surveyed 23 girls showed interest for our group activity plan. We have been with Medha on Meri pehechan activities with Garima girls, starting the session with small quiz or game like activity do energies girls. Following up with a story which eventually triggers a thought process where girls are asked to think of any such situation where she thought "kaash mai ladkaa hoti"!!!, for being a girl she was not able to do a specific task or handle such situation. This activity has made us speak about the stereotypes and deep rooted thoughts in society and our own mindset. Activities triggering self confidence, perseverance, how to deal with lables, writing/knowing their own strengths and weaknesses. And then only speak about her weaknesses to understand whether they are really weaknesses or it's just in the mind and how to overcome such beliefs which are stopping our overall growth... We will continue being part of these activities from meri pehechan and mere sapne till meri game plan... - [Survey of different village girls.](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nNybWZI_d4PjXOky_adsAjT3XB-aPk6jUDomab-2HNU/edit#gid=619883837) **2) Possible list of activities / support to be taken up with Medha Learning Foundation.** We have conducted two activities so far, the first was a skit presentation on the problems faced by the girls and the second was a discussion on understanding gender-based discrimination faced by them. Through these we have been able to understand their circumstances better, in addition to identifying their issue. The girls have had the space to articulate and express the discrimination they have faced, considering that a major theme in both our activities has been gender discrimination (with respect to education, travel, freedom, among others). Through our next set of activities we hope to give them the space to understand teamwork and build a business acumen through entrepreneurial activities like cooking, marketing and selling food. We hope to collaborate more with Medha and bring some of their previous experience into other activities we conduct, focusing on their self-expression, aspirations and skills. In addition to this, one of our core goals is to start a tech group with the girls so that they can sustain technological tools themselves, and innovate or adapt new tools according to their needs. - [Activities conducted](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tOPR10jCPmJ4YeOYd-dIQNznxu0RXYrbEyYSp-PTj80/edit?usp=sharing) **3) Draft document on framework of packaging Webinar ~~pie~~ Pi technology.** Packaging of hardware involves two significant tasks. 1. The design on an enclosure that would cater to our specific activity needs while being flexible to a certain degree with the possible local configurations. In our case, this could mean that the camera and the screen can be independent or a big screen or a projector can be used in addition to the default 7" or a 10" screen we provide. 2. The compatiblity of the peripherals with the computer board and the ruggedness of the connected components. We have been testing but faced some delays due to new lockdowns and some team families' reporting Covid positive. Last month has seen a huge increase of positive cases in India -19L cases now which is an almost 3 fold increase. - [Webinar Pi Platform](/242TkC3VSKOJ6vEBjq046w) **4) Prototyping webinar ~~pie~~ Pi technology across three different locations (hardware, software and networking elements)** Currently we are testing the prototype version of the platform (hardware and software) amongst our team members living in different locations. Some specifics about prototyping tasks are here: - [Dry run for distributed syncing across devices #Sprint: Raspberry pi platform testing](/7s3JVZ5ySIqj4G73Qe29Cw?view#Sprint-Raspberry-pi-platform-testing) **5) Validate software and hardware compatibility of phones, shared by Medha with the community girls.** * We have tested some of our applications which are mentioned in the point (4). We want to further test these across the 22 phones Medha had given to the Garima Girls and do a testing during the Medha's session with girls. ## Team Medha 1) Draft framework of the activities (with support from Janastu) to be carried out with targeted girls in Mirzapur 2) Online modules of co-creation activities designed with the target group during earlier visits. 3) Update on interactions and findings with girls from Mirzapur district. We request the teams to kindly update us on the progress of these activities. Thank you. With best regards,Mayank
