# ADB and Fastboot ## Enabling ADB on-device To enable ADB on your Android device, first enable developer options. To do that, head to your phone's "About Phone" page in the settings app, and hit the "Build Number" text about 10 times. <span style="font-size: 13px; color:grey;">on MIUI you might have to hit "MIUI Version" instead.</span> Once you've done that, search for "ADB Debugging" or "USB Debugging", then enable it. Now your device will ask whenever a PC with ADB installed and running connects if you want to allow a connection using ADB ## Installing it on your PC/Mac You can get ADB and Fastboot from Google's developer website [here](https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools) From there, you can extract them anywhere you'd like, and use them in a Terminal or Powershell like so: <span class="smol">make sure your Terminal/Powershell is opened in the same folder as you extracted!</span> ``` ./adb <your command here> ``` ``` ./fastboot <your command here> ``` for example, this is how you pull a file (here an example image) from your phone, to your PC using ADB: ``` ./adb pull /sdcard/Pictures/example.png/ ``` as another example, here is how to erase user data using fastboot ***(DONT RUN THIS BY ACCIDENT, YOU WILL LOOSE DATA)***: ```bash ./fastboot erase userdata # or alternatively ./fastboot -w ``` :::danger ### FastbootD notice Recent devices have introduced FastbootD FastbootD is Fastboot in Data, meaning it can be modified (by the likes of Lineage Recovery for example) You need to access FastbootD on affected devices before you can use Fastboot. To do that, use this command: ```bash fastboot reboot fastboot ``` Alternatively, you can enter Lineage Recovery (or anything based on it) and hit `reboot to fastbootd` ::: :::spoiler full ADB help page (v33) ``` Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.41 Version 33.0.1-8253317 Installed as /home/rush/.local/bin/platform-tools/adb global options: -a listen on all network interfaces, not just localhost -d use USB device (error if multiple devices connected) -e use TCP/IP device (error if multiple TCP/IP devices available) -s SERIAL use device with given serial (overrides $ANDROID_SERIAL) -t ID use device with given transport id -H name of adb server host [default=localhost] -P port of adb server [default=5037] -L SOCKET listen on given socket for adb server [default=tcp:localhost:5037] --one-device SERIAL|USB only allowed with 'start-server' or 'server nodaemon', server will only connect to one USB device, specified by a serial number or USB device address. general commands: devices [-l] list connected devices (-l for long output) help show this help message version show version num networking: connect HOST[:PORT] connect to a device via TCP/IP [default port=5555] disconnect [HOST[:PORT]] disconnect from given TCP/IP device [default port=5555], or all pair HOST[:PORT] [PAIRING CODE] pair with a device for secure TCP/IP communication forward --list list all forward socket connections forward [--no-rebind] LOCAL REMOTE forward socket connection using: tcp:<port> (<local> may be "tcp:0" to pick any open port) localabstract:<unix domain socket name> localreserved:<unix domain socket name> localfilesystem:<unix domain socket name> jdwp:<process pid> (remote only) vsock:<CID>:<port> (remote only) acceptfd:<fd> (listen only) forward --remove LOCAL remove specific forward socket connection forward --remove-all remove all forward socket connections ppp TTY [PARAMETER...] run PPP over USB reverse --list list all reverse socket connections from device reverse [--no-rebind] REMOTE LOCAL reverse socket connection using: tcp:<port> (<remote> may be "tcp:0" to pick any open port) localabstract:<unix domain socket name> localreserved:<unix domain socket name> localfilesystem:<unix domain socket name> reverse --remove REMOTE remove specific reverse socket connection reverse --remove-all remove all reverse socket connections from device mdns check check if mdns discovery is available mdns services list all discovered services file transfer: push [--sync] [-z ALGORITHM] [-Z] LOCAL...
