Warm-ups can be described as exercises one normally runs right before the main proceedings to help participants relax and ease people into a group activity or learning situation. Warm-ups go very well with design thinking because they support many of its attributes, such as being curious and having an open mindset as well as being mindful of and collaborating with other people.

Fast Portraits works as an icebreaker in many situations. People are being introduced to each other in a playful and fun way, without being judged on skill-level.
The success of this activity lies in the fact that although the main activity is drawing, you do not need to have great drawing skills to participate and have fun.
It is recommended for all ages from 6-7 years old.

## Time frame
20 min

## Materials:
* Dina4 papers
* Pens or markers

## Goal:
To draw at least 3 quick portraits of your activity partners.

## Preparation:
For this activity you need a relatively clear area where participants can move around freely.
If you are in a class with tables and chairs, remove some of them to create a large space where people can stand and walk without bumping into each other.

## Steps:

1. Before starting, explain the objective of the activity, but don’t explain the rules yet. In this way you will keep the group’s expectation and a mixture of fear and nerves will be generated that during the activity will be transformed into laughter!
1. Give participants 4-5 blank sheets of paper and a pen or marker.
1. Ask everyone to stand up with their sheets of paper and pen in hand (as if in a drawing position)
1. This is the time to explain the only 2 rules of the activity.
1. You cannot look at the paper while you are drawing.
1. You may not lift the pen/pen from the paper.
1. Ask everyone to walk around the room until you find a partner. The goal is for everyone to be matched.
1. Now tell them that they have 10 seconds to draw the picture of the person in front of them, without breaking any of the 2 rules ;)
1. When these 10 seconds are up, ask the participants to put the name of the drawer on the portrait they have drawn and give it to their partner.
1. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for at least 3 times.
1. At the end of the 3 rounds, ideally each participant will have 3-4 portraits of him/herself, made by other partners.
1. Ask everyone to go back to their seats, and for 5 minutes, review the pictures that their classmates have given them, and choose one of them, the one that they like or represent the most.
1. Begin a round of presentations. Ask each participant to introduce themselves and explain which picture they have chosen and why? Finally, pass the turn to the partner who has made the drawing that has been selected.
