Proposal **Let Them Own Ducks!**
## Preface
This proposal takes the form of three sections. The first section, **Additions**, adds a rule that attempts to clarify vocabulary used throughout the ruleset.
The final section, **Proposals**, offers revisions to active proposals as of the submission of this document, to intent of clarifying or rectifying to align with the above rule addition. Some proposals have been omitted due to an unlikelihood of passing. Each proposal-revision in this section should only come into effect if the original proposal had passed.
The second section, **Revisions**, attempts preserve the intended meanings of existing rules while clarifying or rectifying to align the rule addition. Similarly, the revision of each rule in this section should only come into effect if a prior proposal had not passed that modifies the same selection of text or the intent of the proposal. When replacement text is specified, it shall be interpreted according to clear and unambiguous intent, taking into account recent modifications to the rules text.
## Additions
Add the following rule, before the **Trade** section.
### Items
>An item is any entity defined as such by the rules.
>
>The term "ownership" is used to denote that a player has *agency* to take actions on, with, or with respect to an item in the game. An item that is owned by a player is not owned by any other player, and a player retains ownership of that item even when they lose possession of it. The terms "give", "trade", "exchange", "take", "steal", etc., and the use of the possessive (i.e. "a player's duck") all refer to the change in ownership of an item. When a player loses ownership of an item, they also lose possession of that item unless a rule specifies otherwise.
>
>The term "possession" is used to denote a player's *ability* to take actions on, with, or with respect to an item in the game. If a player gains ownership of an item, they also recieve possession of that item, unless clearly specified otherwise. If a player loses possession of an item, said player still owns that item, but loses the ability to take actions on, with, or with respect to that item, unless a rule would say otherwise. The terms "borrow", "use", etc. all refer to the change in possession of an item, but not its ownership.
>
>Note that a player, item, etc. can also possess an attribute, such as a name, which is not subject to the above definition.
## Proposals
For each proposal listed in this section, replace the text specified in the rule as it would be after the proposal passes. If the proposal didn't pass, ignore the revision.
### Proposal *Automatic Feeders*
Replace the sentence
>If a duck is ever to change possession, its Quacks transfer with it, remaining associated with the duck.
with the following:
>If a duck is ever to change ownership, its Quacks transfer with it, remaining associated with the duck.
### Proposal *Auctions of Ownerless Ducks*
Replace this sentence
>At the end of the voting period after the voting period in which the first valid bid was placed, the auction concludes and the duck is transferred to the possession of the highest bidder and quacks are deducted.
with the following:
>At the end of the voting period after the voting period in which the first valid bid was placed, the auction concludes, the highest bidder becomes the owner of the duck, and quacks are deducted.
## Revisions
Modify the following rules:
### Players
Replace the line
>Only players may perform actions, vote, and possess items.
with the following:
>Players may perform actions, vote, and possess items.
### Trade
Replace this sentence
>Players may give or exchange items in their possession with other players.
with the following:
>Players may give or exchange ownership of items in their possession with other players.
### Ducks
Replace the first paragraph
>Upon joining the game, a duck is created in the possession of each player. Players may give any duck they own a name in #game-actions. Players may not interact with unnamed ducks in any way except to give them a name, and any reference to ducks outside this rule refers only to named ducks unless otherwise specified.
with the following:
>Upon joining the game, a player is given ownership of a new duck. Players may give a name to any duck they own in #game-actions. Players may not take actions with respect to unnamed ducks except to give them a name, and any reference to ducks outside this rule refers only to named ducks unless otherwise specified.
### Feeding Ducks
Replace the first paragraph
>Once per voting period, a player may feed another player’s duck by announcing which duck they with to feed in #game-actions, and optionally adding one valid fruit. The duck being fed gains 1d6 Quacks, plus any benefits from the fruit. If a duck is ever to change possession, its Quacks transfer with it, remaining in possession of the duck.
with the following:
>Ducks have an attribute they possess called Quacks.
>
>Once per voting period, a player may feed another player’s duck by announcing which duck they with to feed in #game-actions. The player may optionally add one valid fruit they own, which is then consumed by the duck. The duck being fed gains 1d6 Quacks, plus any benefits from the fruit. If a duck is ever to change ownership, its Quacks transfer with it, remaining in possession of the duck.
### Quack Attacks
Replace the following paragraph
>The following actions are designated "Quack Attacks" and can be performed by posting intent to do so in #game-actions. Quack Attacks are performed through a duck in one's one possession. Each Quack Attack has an associated cost. Upon performing a quack attack, the cost is deducted from the duck through which the attack was performed. Quack Attacks cannot be performed through ducks who do not have quacks equal to or greater than the cost of that attack. If a Quack Attack requires targets, these must be specified in the same message as the action intent.
with the following:
>The following actions are designated "Quack Attacks" and can be performed by posting intent to do so in #game-actions. Quack Attacks are performed with a duck in one's possession. Each Quack Attack has an associated cost. Upon performing a quack attack, the cost is deducted from the duck with which the attack was performed. Quack Attacks cannot be performed with ducks who do not have quacks equal to or greater than the cost of that attack. If a Quack Attack requires targets, these must be specified in the same message as the action intent.
Replace the effect of *Hatch Egg*
>A new duck is created in the possession of the attacking duck's owner. The new duck's parent is the attacking duck.
with the following:
>The duck's owner is given ownership of a new duck. The new duck's parent is the attacking duck.

>Possession of the target is transferred from the DUCK DUKE to the attacker. This attack may not be performed by Duck Royalty.
with the following:
>Ownership of the target is transferred from the DUCK DUKE to the attacker. This attack may not be performed by Duck Royalty.
### Scouting
Replace the second sentence of the first paragraph
>When the duck is on the scouting mission, the duck is no longer in possession of the player, thus benefits the duck provides the player are paused.
with the following:
>When the duck is on the scouting mission it is no longer in possession of the player and does not reside in its assigned pond.
Replace the following sentence
>Upon return, the potential quacks are added to the returning duck's total quacks, benefits and costs the duck provides to the player are unpaused, and as long as they have not cut their losses, the owner of the duck will obtain a new duck along with their existing duck.
with the following:
>Upon return, the player regains possession of the duck, the duck returns to its assigned pond, the potential quacks are added to the returning duck's total quacks, and as long as they have not cut their losses, the owner of the duck will obtain a new duck along with their existing duck.
### Duck Royalty
Replace the first two sentences
>The entity possessing the most ducks in total is the Duck King. The entity possessing the most quacks among all their owned ducks is the Duck Lord.
with the following:
>The entity that owns the most ducks in total is the Duck King. The entity that possesses the most quacks among all their owned ducks is the Duck Lord.
