Hello, I'm Kevin Darmawan. It's nice to meet you!
I am a 4th year undergraduate student studying at Computer Engineering, Universitas Indonesia. It has been a great pleasure spending my summer holiday in studying about something impactful as 5G O-RAN technology. I first knew about the TEEP program as a freshman from my senior who is 2 years above me. He told me fascinating stories about his internship experience in Taiwan with his friends. Hearing his experience, getting accepted for the internship program was one of my biggest goals in my college period. Who would have thought that I would actually be in this spot right now and about to end my journey soon.
Being forced under an online working circumstances does not stop me from wanting to learn at NTUST, in some cases it is actually an opportunity. During my summer internship, I spend my time in studying about Fronthaul Interface of O-RAN, how it works. I learn how to read and document source code, and understand the importance of creating documentation that others can easily learn from. I also get to know more about a real integration project collaborating with collagues from EURECOM during the period my mentor's internship in France. It was quite exciting to know how open-source projects are done, and made me think to hone my skills and be an open-source project collaborator in the future.
I happen to make a new friend along my journey, his name is Wilfrid from ITB. He happens to be graduating this summer and wants to spend his summer challenging himself to study 5G. Wilfrid is a really smart and humble person, I wish you good luck on continuing your study at NTUST! Shuhua from NTUST was also collaborating in the fronthaul project, we interacted quite a lot and he thaught me many things, he is best teaching people in 'Learning by Doing', and that is a method that I personally like. Shuhua is a great person to work with and has the spirit to grow and learn.
There's also my mentor ms.Ann who have been supporting me since the period of my pre-internship and always encouraging me, her feedbacks and advice are important to me so I can improve myself. She is also very smart as she is selected for the integration project to go to EURECOM in france to lead the team and bridge the communication between two entities. With the right team and encouragement from the people around her, she can do wonders, she is great and she needs to know that she is.
Professor Ray Guang Cheng is a great supervisor in this program, he always provides us with insightful and constructive feedbacks during our weekly meeting. Professor Ray also encourages us to move forward and to give our all in doing something. I definitely learned a lot from him and I thank Professor Ray to his guidance and help in learning about this topic. It has been an honour working in NTUST BMW lab this summer.
Overall I'm pleased with the outcome of this summer internship experience, I definitely got the 'experience' part in collaborating in a different cultural (and timezone) environment, got the first hand experience in learning about cutting edge mobile technology, and also getting to know new people of different backgrounds. Thank you for everyone who are part of this program for these wonderful past few months!
Best regards,
Kevin
