# Private message sharing for Validators Grant Proposal

### Overview

This project is to demonstrate a real-world use-case of the [RLN construct](https://medium.com/privacy-scaling-explorations/rate-limiting-nullifier-a-spam-protection-mechanism-for-anonymous-environments-bbe4006a57d) to provide spam protection for anonymous beacon chain validator messaging, by implementing a client which integrates with Lodestar, a Typescript beacon chain validator.

### Project Details
This project will be divided into 3 interacting parts:
* A smart contract that allows a beacon chain validator to register as part of the RLN messaging network
* A client that will run along side the beacon chain client that:
* Listens to registration events emitted by the smart contract
* Validates registration events
* Ability to query if a message sender is valid member
* Integration into Lodestar using gossipsub-rln.

#### Tech stack
* Solidity for smart contract development
* Typescript for the client and REST API
* gossipsub-rln (an extension of gossipsub, part of the libp2p protocol)
* Integration with [Lodestar](https://github.com/ChainSafe/lodestar), a typescript implementation of the Beacon Chain

### Milestone 1 RLN Smart Contract Implementation & Client Base Functionality

| 2. | Registration from Client | I will begin writing the typescript client, by first allowing the user to register with the messaging protocol, through the smart contract, via the client front-end. |
| 3. | Validate Registration on Client | I will implement the validation of registration events emitted from the smart contract.|
| 4. | Client REST API | I will extend the codebase of the client by implementing a REST API, adding the ability to query if a message sender has a valid registration. |

| 2. | Lodestar Client Integration | I will integrate the client written in milestone #1 into lodestar, giving lodestar the ability to validate received messages are from members, using the REST API. |
| 3. | Application | The lodestar beacon chain client will be able to send, receive, and relay gossipsub-rln messages, and validate message sender membership. |
