Why Taiko? What's Taiko?

Why Taiko?

  • Layer 2s need to be decentralized & permissionless.
  • zkRollups will share a common spec (and developer experience) close to Ethereum’s (Type-1).
  • No rollup can scale Ethereum singlehandedly (state explosion). We need multiple L2s and L3s.

What's Taiko?

  • Decentralized: blocks proposed & sequenced by L1 validators (Justin Drake: based rollup); proven permissionlessly.
  • Type-1: Same VM, gas price, keccak, ECDSA, Trie… (time-adjusted 1559, w/o 4844/blob)
  • Same codebase/solution for layer 3s – "Inception Layers"

  • Open to all apps to send arbitrary messages
