# FY2021 Budget Talks ## CentOS * 2 42 U rack (6k/rack) = 12k * 4 APC power distribution racks (2k/pdu) = 8k * 6 Dell R640's {standard build} 20k/per {dedicated to stream} = 120k * 2 Dell R740's {standard build} 30k/per {dedicated to storage} = 60k * 2 10 gig juniper network switch (12k) = 24k * 2 1 gig juniper network switch (8k) = 16 * 4 Power 9 systems (35k/system) = 140k * 4 Power 10 systems (40k/system) = 160k Alternate Request: * Supermicro chassis fully loaded 105k (max 3 year warranty. no extension) would repace 6 Dell R640's. Power hardware estimate (depends on P9 vs P10 availability): $45K Stretch requests: * network storage 45 drives ssd (30k) = 30 * 3 Dell R440's for Openshift frontend control nodes (need to be dedicated hardware). (12k/system) = 36k CAPEX: 285k Stretch: 66k Plan for use: 1. Current racks are over power and over weight for floor plan. The extra racks will realign the weight of some systems. 2. If CentOS Stream needs to move into a Fedora like colocation with Red Hat IT systems for z machines this will allow racks with that equipment to be wheeled to the cage down the hall which would allow it. 3. If Stream is moved then getting access to send backups to Red Hat netapp hardware would be preferred which would allow for cross work with Fedora items. {the netapp would not be available for active disk storage without additional front end hardware} 4. If not, the 45 drives will allow for a warrantied replacement for a loaner box being used to store stream currently. 5. Power PC systems are no longer available as loaners and these will be needed to build out alternative architectures for CentOS-8 and 9. ## Fedora Replace 4 Dell R630's with low CPU number * 3 Dell R640 {standard build} 20k/per = 60k * 1 Dell R740 to act as a dedicated proxy/share for s390 slowness = 30k * 2 Lenovo HR350a to replace 4 mustangs 7k/system = 14k * 2 Lenovo HR350a for CoreOS Multiarch 7k/system = 14k Get dedicated systems for OpenShift4 cluster * 3 Dell R440 {standard low build} 12k/per = 36k * 3 Dell R640 {standard build} 20k/per = 60k Possible extra budget needs * 6 Power 9 systems (35k/system) = 210k * 6 Power 10 systems (40k/system) = 240k Plans for use: 1. 3 Dell R640 systems are to replace 4 or 5 6 year old Dell systems who do not have many cores or RAM. 2. The Dell R740 is to be used to help facilitate better work on the s390. The s390x systems are remote from the rest of the Fedora build system and we have to use one of the builders as a caching mechanism for packages to be used in the buildsystem. However the s390 is also overloaded so we are seeing a 90% missed cpu count which means the caching server is not available for the builds slowing things down further. By moving the cache to a system not on the s390 we fix an overload problem 3. The 4 mustangs are not under any warranty and have to be power cycled weekly to keep working. 4. CoreOS needs multiarch support for aarch64 and we do not have the resources to do this with current hardware. 5. The OpenShift 4 cluster will be replacing our Openshift 3 systems. Openshift3 uses virtual machines to control things, but OS4 requires dedicated hardware for its clustering. The minimum configuration for this is 3 front end nodes and 3 backend nodes. 6. IBM is no longer doing a loaner program for power systems. It is not clear at this moment if we will have to return the loaners we have or can extend them indefinitely. We would need 6 power 9 system to replace the current set. 7. IBM will not be loaning power 10 systems and so we will need to purchase them. We currently have 8 power 9 systems and 8 power 8 systems. We were going to replace the power 8 with 10 when they came out.
