# Abstract
## Proposal Title
Injecting DEI into Community Event Policies
## Session Type
Workshop/BOF 1.8 hours
## Track
General
## Abstract
With the increased awareness of inequality, law regressions, and the push to improve diversity and inclusion in Free Software, the question of events and DEI is a becoming a important topic among organizers and communities, and a source of discontent from some marginalized groups. In order to explore these challenges, this interactive workshop will dive into applying sample policies on various scenarios such as determining event locations and decision making for funding community led events. Participants will get experience with the difficulties associated with creating equitable policies, be inspired to craft unique solutions, all while keeping the practical on-the-ground logistics in mind. Join this workshop to learn, broaden your perspective, and help shape the future of Fedora community events and (hopefully) beyond.

# Scratchpad & Notes
## What do we want the outcome to be?
- this depends on we have in advance of the session, for both Fedora & Python/PSF
- Idea: Feedback session, that way we whereever we are in the process we can get feedback
- Idea: We have a policy/document ready, and then we have participants test the policy
- How that would go in practice: Here's the policy, here's 3 proposals, use the policy to evaluate the proposals, come to a decision. Break into small groups (3 people)
- Idea: presentation about why we want to do this. 20-30 minutes of discussion about why we are doing the policy.
- Idea: also include Mindshare/processes
- Idea: do one scenario for each group, Grants Working Group, Mindshare, Leadership/Organizer with community input
- Idea: invite Dorka to participate in the workshop (or facilitate?)

## Notes with Dorka
- Cons:
- busy during flock, maybe not enough experience?, not sure about her perspective
- Pros:
- If there is some kind of meaningful result, it would be helpful for me to be there
- Thoughts
- Marie convinces Dorka to do it :P
- If we could cut out the presentation section part for Dorka, that would work.
- Things Dorka would cover in a presentation:
- What to do at a booth
- How DevConf is organized, details for organizing
